Hi everyone,
I am sorry for my long silence, but the last few months have been incredibly tough and I needed to step back for a moment, breathe, and stay close to my family.
Some of you might remember the little video I shared of my mum, the one where she lifted her thumb and said “Hello” just two days after her surgery. At that time it seemed she was slowly recovering and moving in the right direction.
Unfortunately, just as she reached the 3 month mark of her recovery, everything changed suddenly. She caught Covid, which triggered a severe pneumonia. From one day to the next we were back in ICU, and the doctors prepared us for the worst, they gave her only a 15 to 20 percent chance of survival.
Those weeks were devastating.
We reached the point of the oxygen helmet, moments I hope no one ever has to experience.
But my mum is a fighter, stubborn, strong, impossible to break, and she fought with everything she had, and against all odds, she made it.
She stayed in hospital for a month, but she came out, and now day by day she is getting stronger again. She has so much energy, sometimes too much, because she tends to push herself more than she should, but that is just who she is.
(And yes… she might remind you of someone 😅)
Now we have one last delicate step ahead on the 19th of December, when they will remove her final drain, the KER. The doctors warned us that this part can be a bit tricky and may cause fever or require a short hospital stay, but we remain optimistic, and whatever comes, we will face it together, as we have done until now.
I also want to thank every single one of you for the love you have continued to send me. Your messages and emails have helped me get through even the darkest moments. Even if I did not reply, I read everything and kept your words in my heart every single day. I will never stop thanking you, you are a wonderful community.
Thank you again to everyone who reached out or worried during my silence,
It truly meant a lot.
With love, Sabine ###x
