When you take risks you learn that there will be times when you succeed and there will be times when you fail - Kathrina Payot-Paglinawan
This is the D StartUp Stories story of Kathrina, it's not just a cake. To pursue my passion and purpose. Starting a business is one way to get a step closer to finding my purpose by simply sharing my passion and doing what I love.
This is her deciding point to start her own small business. Taking chances is one of the most crucial ways of helping to advance one's skills and gain experience. When you take risks you learn that there will be times when you succeed and there will be times when you fail and both are equally important. If fear didn’t even factor in our decisions, how much further could we get?
A piece of personal advice to fellow Global Filipino who wants to start a small business. Dealing with struggles! A good support system of friends or family can make all the difference. Even if they don't understand what you are trying to achieve, just the fact that they believe in you as a person makes all the difference. A lot of things can happen in a span of five to ten years. But one thing is for sure, Notjuscakes a renowned cafe and bakeshop will pave its way in the market. This is where I see myself and my startup business 5 years from now.
Time management – Especially, I still have a full-time job. Based on what I do, my full-time work, my small business and my personal are so intermixed that I sometimes don’t really take time to relax. Going out to dinner is the best, but not when I’m on my phone doing stories or Instagram instead of talking to my friends. Small price to pay, but I’m learning to be present and to enjoy. Time management seems to be a problem for tons of people right now 🙂 Yes, setting goals and then taking small, achievable steps toward reaching them is an example of personal growth. Grown personally from becoming an entrepreneur.
My biggest role model, and at what point did you look at your business and consider it a success are my parents. Without Them being proud of who I am right now, really makes me feel that I can do everything. Success looks different for everyone.
In my opinion, success should be measured by how happy you are. The happiness I feel every time a customer sends me a message that they liked my cakes, that they are happy and satisfied with the service I delivered. For me, I considered it as a success. Word of mouth is essential for the growth of my cake business.
I can sustain a good income by just having loyal customers vouch for my business. If customers give referrals and support my business.
