Trip down memory lane ...
It's almost unbelievable that Mozambique borders with Tanzania and SA... We entered Mz at Ponta de Namoto, crossing the Rivuma river by dug out canoes as there is no bridge. Northern Mozambique has one of the last remaining wild frontiers in Africa... We cycled through unspoilt bushveld forest and saw plenty elephant dung, but unfortunately no elephant itself. It was here that we had the worst road in all of our journey.... Our diet consisted of yet again bread, tea but had the bonus of Marie biscuits, condensed milk and tinned sardines... It kept us alive, but I won't say it was a nice time.. The more south we cycled the better and more developed it became, due to SA influence. At our halfway mark, at the Mighty Zambezi we had our first proper rest in Caia.. Here we slept on the floor in a hotel room which belonged to a couple of South African train drivers... We slept there for 4 nightstand were given food and great friendship by Johan Beukes. from there we went further south and were met by Oom Etiene Bruwer and two of his mates. They treated us with one night in a lodge...and later booked two nights and all meals included at a luxurious lodge in Vilanculos, we could hardly believe our good fortune. At that lodge in Vilanculos we received a free beach horseback safari. Then at the Inhambane area we met the Uys family from Pretoria and they invited us to stay at their beach house..here we went deep sea fishing with them, they fed us as if we've never even seen food at all.. We are happy to be able to say that they are our friends. Then from there we cycled further south to Quissico.. And here in this splendid town we met you Jaji ;).. And we are forever thankful of what she did for us as brothers and a family! From there it was plain sailing to Maputo and then to the Swaziland border..
