I’m Jo, a mama, baker, and the heart behind the sweets.

Originally from Tinian, Northern Mariana Islands, I now call Olympia, Washington home, where I create custom cakes and treats for life’s sweetest moments.

For me, baking is more than dessert. It’s love, family, culture, and creating something meaningful for the people you care about most. Growing up in the islands taught me that food brings people together, and I carry that same heart into everything I make.

I specialize in custom cakes and treats for birthdays, graduations, baby showers, weddings, and all of life’s special celebrations. From island inspired touches to elegant custom designs, every order is made with creativity, care, and a whole lot of love.

I love turning ideas into desserts that not only taste amazing but make people stop and say, “Okayyy, who made this?” 😍

This image represents the many hats I wear and the different versions of me that make Mamis by Mama Jo possible. I’m a proud Chamorro/Pacific Islander, a baker, and a career driven woman doing my best to balance it all.

Like many mamas, I wear a lot of hats while chasing dreams, showing up for my family, and building something meaningful. Baking became a way for me to blend my creativity, my island roots, and my love for making people feel celebrated.

This whole baking journey started because of my kids.

Every year they had very specific birthday cake requests, and trying to find someone who could bring their ideas to life stressed me out. So one year I decided to just make their cakes myself.

I didn’t expect anything to come from it but people started telling me how good the cakes looked and how delicious they tasted. That encouragement pushed me to keep going, and since then I’ve invested so much time, energy, and money into learning and experimenting with new flavors and techniques!

Fun fact: I’m actually not a huge sweets person and hardly ever eat what I bake 🫣 but I have a house full of eager and honest taste testers and I love hearing everyone’s reactions and feedback.

So far the favorites have been classic vanilla and French vanilla cake, white chocolate whipped frosting, and marshmallow buttercream.

Throwback to the first wedding cake I ever made last summer 🤍

The customer requested a cake inspired by the macchiato cake from 85°C Bakery Cafe, so I created a dense French vanilla cake layered with a rich coffee cream filling ☕️🤤

This one had the perfect balance of sweet, creamy, and bold coffee flavor. Definitely one of those cakes I wish I could make again just to eat a slice myself.

Moments like this remind me why I started baking — being able to create something special for someone’s big day with my own two hands.
