I didn’t formulate Tulsi Rose because I thought I needed another tea.

I formulated it because I needed a helping hand.

Something that didn’t just taste good, but could support my body through the emotional and physical impact of stress.

It has:

• Tulsi, a fragrant adaptogen traditionally used to support resilience during times of stress

• Rose, a heart-centered astringent traditionally used to support emotional and physical boundaries

• Marshmallow root, a moistening demulcent traditionally used to soothe dryness

• Spearmint, an aromatic digestive traditionally used to support digestion and brighten the blend. It’s also been studied for its potential to support healthy androgen levels. (Looking at you, PCOS 👀)

• Orange peel, an aromatic bitter that adds a little sweetness and brightness to the blend

Together, these herbs create a blend that aims to bring you into balance — warming and cooling, drying and moistening, grounding and uplifting.

This is what I love about herbalism. It isn’t always about finding one herb to do one thing. It’s about understanding the plants and how they work together.

Have questions about how the herbs in this blend might benefit you? PM me! I love talking about herbs. 💚

I was a postpartum stay-at-home mom when I started making sourdough. I felt disempowered. I couldn’t find a traditional job, money was tight, and my health had taken a turn.

In an effort to lower inflammation, I sought out nutritious food and quickly realized how expensive it was. I was disenchanted with the food industry, and pi**ed that healthy food was so hard to access.

So I decided to make my own sourdough.

I wanted agency over myself, the food that I ate, and my health.

I named my starter Ruth after Ruth from Fried Green Tomatoes, one of my favorite movies.

I loved Ruth’s friendship with Idgie. I loved that they took care of each other through it all. And at the time, my best friend was going through ovarian cancer.

I made her sourdough throughout chemo.

It made me feel like I could do something during a time where all you can do is wait for the treatment to work.

I couldn’t make the cancer go away. But I could make bread. I could feed my friend.

It reminded me how women take care of each other. Through success and through failure.

And I failed. Many, many times.

Burnt loaves. Undercooked. Under-fermented. Over-fermented.

I sat on my kitchen floor and cried when I couldn’t get it right.

But I kept going. I kept baking.

I learned. And the learning taught me confidence to know that I can learn and grow.

That’s what I want to give other people: the feeling that they are capable.

Because sourdough and herbs aren’t something you learn once. They’re a practice. Something that takes time, effort, and perseverance. We have to give ourselves permission to fail and know that it’s not the end of the story.

We can fail and still bake something beautiful. We can sip a tea and feel a little better.

I believe everyone deserves access to healing food and herbs and the knowledge to use them to heal ourselves.

I want other people to know that it can be simple, if we believe in ourselves enough to try.

Ruth taught me that sometimes, you just have to get up off the kitchen floor.
