Perhaps you’re like us, and your holiday season is looking differently than you thought it would. Maybe you feel far from community or loved ones. Maybe you’re grieving. Maybe you know someone really going through it… 🫂❤️‍🩹🫂❤️‍🩹🫂

We are imagining a new way of being together. We are dreaming of being Jewish secret Santa’s this year dropping off homebaked magic kitchen Witchery to your sweet ones with whom you cannot gather. 🍞🥨🥣🥮🥒

A limited edition menu highlighting local WA apples in our epic baked crisp (it’s gluten free and you’d never know it!)🍎🍏🍎

We’ve cleared a lot of space in our week to meet the demands of our second year running all time favorite cinnamon rolls (we have secret ingredients that produce the most divine roll!) Someone recently accurately described that our whole roll is like that coveted little center nub we all love. Homemade cream cheese frosting that is thick and not overly sweet to balance it all out. Mmm. *Chefs kiss*🥮🥮🥮

Check out the rest of the menu below.
As always message me to order and for any questions you might have.

Let us know what you want and let us know where your loved ones live so we can deliver up magic all around town this week. ✨

We’ll be making extra bread and dropping them to our houseless neighbors and local free pantries along the way, too thanks to the generosity of this community! The true meaning of challah for the people- mitzvah. ✡️✡️✡️

May we feel more belonging and more beloved through these times by weaving love and surprise, wonder and delight with one another.

❤️‍🩹Keep each other safe this season. Tend to your hearth and home. Deepen into gratitude for the simple pleasures of being alive. ❤️‍🩹

Be sure to follow on IG and FB.

My dears! It’s time to get your orders in for the weekly roundup!

This week we are featuring local, fresh from the farm apples in a few of our offerings.

Crisp: apples, fennel, fresh cranberries, spices and GLUTEN FREE oats come together and warm you from the inside out. It’s our favorite eat at any meal dish! 8x8 pan

Applesauce: our unique mix of apples, slow simmered with a few chunks will remind you that warm spiced apples are a top-notch comfort food. No guilt here because we add zero sugar! Sold by the quart (it hardly lasts a couple days around here!)

Bubbeleh’s NY style fridge Pickles:
Emotional support pickles- garlicky, mustardy and dilly spears that are sour and crunchy and always there, say, like a good friend. Add glass ball jar for a gift for a few extra dollars.

Pandammit pickle- these are spicy, potent and unforgettable kind of like the pandemic we’re surviving right now. Sold by the quart.

Cinnamon rolls- we make sense, doughy, spiced, gooey (hello buttermilk!) trays of cinnamon rolls. They come with our decadent cream cheese frosting on the side so you can reheat the rolls and frost til your heart’s content! Sold by the doz and half doz.

Orders close Tuesday evening for delivery Friday 12/17.

Payment via venmo, cashapp or Zelle confirms your spot!

✨✨Get yer pickles, kids… it’s a fireside chat with bubbeleh (Zevi Yoj) ✨✨

If you’re someone who has been around for a while, you might have seen a change of hands when Strega and I (zevi) were planning to move away from WA and handed challah for the people over to an excited community member turned friend.

After some major health challenges and other twists and turns from the universe, Strega and I have landed back in WA state and felt a deep call to keep doing the magic of our hearts in the kitchen and community.

So, we kind of quietly stepped back in and didn’t want to overwhelm people with all the unfoldings but I’ve been seeing quite a bit of confusion (and crickets from a lot of the regular clients we were serving) so I wanted to pop on here and share that story.

It’s zevi and Strega back in the kitchen. We are thankful for maya’s interest in keeping a passion project alive in our absence.

My ancestors are very, very glad I’m back and I hope you might be, too. 🧿

✨We have made some changes to the process- like, all deliveries between federal way and shoreline now happen out of my little work van now (no more home pickups), we have cute new stickers, an IG page (), and a widening web of Jewish folks in seattle and surrounding and I hope you are one of them!✨

Thanks for sticking it out through some turbulent times your support makes our lives possible right now.

✡️We can’t wait to be a part of your Hanukkah, Shabbat and beyond✡️

In challah we trust,

Hello people of the challah for the people community!!

Since July of 2020 through phenomenal uncertainty and at times, peril, YOU have made this incredible home-baking venture possible. Admittedly, we didn’t think we’d even make it past a week or three and here we are 6+ months later and building out even more layers and connections across the greater seattle area and north end. We are taking this last week of January off— to practice an important part of the resistance road- rest (maybe also possibly develop a new challah recipe we have been dreaming up) and come back in February ready to deliver more fine jewish delights from our home to yours.

If you’ve ordered from us and have something you’d like to share about your experience— would you take this week while the challah is sleeping, to visit our page and leave us a review under the “review” section on our fb page?

If you haven’t ordered from us and want to know more—check out our page and feel free to send any questions over our way.

With grateful hearts and much hopefulness as we March fervently into 2021 together...We will see you in February.

Mwahh, we love you!

Challah for the people presents: Pie for the People
*****
We are delighted to offer two seasonal specialties:
Local honeycrisp apple pie
+
Grounding Spiced pumpkin pie

All made from scratch. Seasoned with love and care. Baked to perfection for your table.

One thing is clear— we need not depend on holidays to celebrate our aliveness and, it’s also clear that the holiday traditions we have known in our unique family structures will feel different this year. We are dreaming of creating a movement in our community of people buying pies to give to their neighbors, to gift to their mail carrier, to drop off to their elderly loved ones, to give to a friend as a way to say “I’m here with you, even though we’re staying farther apart these days.”

The tradition of home-baked goods is an important one. We are hearth tenders and we hope you will let us adorn your table with heartfully delicious home baked goods from our very own hearth.

***the details***
- $42 dollars for either flavor pie
- $3 off if you bring your own pie pan
- we also have a local Indigenous potter who makes pie pans and sells them for $40. You can add one on to your order and gift whoever you’re giving a pie to, a gorgeous, local, indigenous-made piece they will cherish for years to come

Hope and Joy in Perilous Times

Not much feels certain in 2020.

And when things feel uncertain, it is a deeper calling to slow down and feel into what is real, true. Our mission began in the throes of a global pandemic, mid-civil uprising, during one of the most historically tense political climates and at the threshold of economic and climate collapse.

Our ancestors knew how to survive through tough times. And so, we are looking to them to help guide us gracefully through this wave of peril, too. They told us, “make the bread with song, prayer, laughter and authenticity. And then... get the bread into the hands of the people.” We said, we can do that.

And so, Challah for the People is here. Made with a slowness and intentionality that disrupts the oppressive capitalistic constructs we seek to transform. We hope you can taste the care and love and thoughtfulness in each bite.
