A Truth About Me

Hey everyone, I wanted to share something personal with you all. The truth is, I have a big complex about my strong New Orleans accent. I often feel like it makes me sound very unprofessional compared to folks' accents from around the country. It's tough because I sometimes feel like my level of intelligence is hidden underneath my accent.

I struggle to speak proper English and avoid using too many New Orleans slang terms when I'm speaking. This has made me prefer writing over speaking because I believe my high level of intelligence can truly be heard through my writing skills.

It’s a challenge I work on every day, and I’m learning to embrace my unique voice while striving to communicate more effectively. I wanted to share this with you because I believe in being authentic and transparent. Our differences make us unique and embracing them is part of the journey.

"From Homeless to Global Success: My Journey in 2020"

In 2020, in the midst of COVID-19, I faced the unimaginable. I had to close my bread and butter, Blue Bird Social Services. Determined to keep going, I started Sweet Treats Sugar Shack. Just when I thought things couldn't get tougher, my landlord sold the house I was living in, giving me less than 30 days to move. With the pandemic raging, finding new housing on such short notice was impossible.

Suddenly, I was homeless, staying in a hotel with barely any funds to pay the high room rates. But I knew I had to find a way to keep some money coming in. I managed to get a hotel room with a full kitchen and continued to pump out orders for my sweets business. At that time, I was still crafting my flavors under the cottage food business, Sweet Treats Sugar Shack.

To make ends meet, I obtained an insurance adjuster license. This led me to Florida, where I worked claims, often sleeping in my car to save money. The experience was grueling, but it provided the funds I desperately needed to keep my business dreams alive.

Despite all of these challenges, I don’t know how I managed to pull this off. It took me 3 months to find housing, and just 3 short months later, I rebranded my flavoring business into what is now known and loved around the world as Fleur De Flavor!
