The end of a great day of cricket at the annual off-island Triangle Tournament yesterday.

Thanks to Tresco Island for being great hosts and well deserved winners, and Claire for this photo which sums up what island cricket is all about.

If you fancy joining a friendly game of cricket, we are having a St. Martins v Campsite game this Wednesday 17th July. All ages and abilities welcome, meeting at 5.30pm on Pool Green, game starting 5.45pm and there will be a BBQ.

See some of you there, you will be able to spot the St. Martins players struggling along with the injuries sustained yesterday!

Auntie Ella’s bread gets the seal of approval from her very cute niece Fern 🥰

Ella began working at the bakery as a Saturday job when she was at school. Over the years her skill, strength, calm and unflappable nature, along with her amazing efficiency, have made her a vital member of the bakery team. Ella shares the (very) early morning baking shift with Barney during the the week, baking loaf after delicious loaf, always with a smile on her face. Thank you Ella ☺️💜

It was so great to see so many of you over Whitsun week, we even had our busiest day on record ever! We are proud the bakery employs eight local people on St. Martins and really appreciate your support, thank you 😊

Super proud to have Hannah as our in house coffee roaster at the bakery on St. Martins 🙌🏻

One of our biggest pleasures of running the bakery in the team of people we get to work with and have worked with over the years. Hannah joined the bakery team in 2018. If you’ve been in the bakery you probably recognise her smiley face and know how kind and calm she always is.

Hannah has an interest in coffee and began roasting coffee beans in a pan on the beach. She then brought a a small roaster and last year we trialled serving her coffee at the bakery. This sometimes meant rushing out between serving customers to roast more! After the success of last year and a keen interest from more people in serving and buying her coffee, Hannah brought a large roaster in the winter.

Hannah now roasts coffee in the evenings at the bakery. Yes it’s all go here from 5am in the morning when the bread ovens are turned on! You can now find Hannah’s coffee on a few outlets across the island.

We are so excited to see how Hannah’s coffee business grows. We are also super proud to serve coffee selected, blended and roasted especially for us. We use the highest quality ingredients and make everything from scratch in our small kitchen here, so the coffee is such a fantastic addition to our range, thank you Hannah! ☕️

Hot on the heels of Armed Forces Day, The Chelsea Pensioners have sailed to the Isles of Scilly aboard our Tall ship Spirit of Falmouth to enjoy some local hospitality. Thank you to everyone on Scilly who have made them and us feel so welcome. The Island Bakery St. Mary's Boatmen's Association.

Hi All,
This week we are running at a reduced capacity while we deal with a family emergency. The wonderful team are holding the fort and will still be able to offer all of our bread, pasties and sweet treats, but please be patient with us.
Our hours will be as normal for Monday to Friday (9-5), but closing at 2pm on Saturday the 17th.

MONO'S EXCITING INSTALLATION FOR THE ISLAND BAKERY, ON THE ISLAND OF ST. MARTIN'S

The beautiful Island of St. Martin's, one of the five inhabited islands that make up the Isles of Scilly, is home to The Island Bakery, run by Barney and Ella McLachlan. This amazing bakery uses local and Cornish ingredients to make a mouth-watering selection of organic breads and rolls along with a range of pastries, hot pies, pizzas, filled rolls and, of course, their famous Cornish pasties.

MONO is delighted to have just installed one of our professional bakery deck ovens at The Island Bakery; what an absolutley stunning location from which to run a bakery!

We would like to thank Barney and Ella for their valued custom and wish them the very best of success with their new deck oven!

I’m very lucky to have two (at least!) incredibly women in my life. And it’s amazing how much they support each other.
Also on International Women’s Day a huge thank you to Di, Hannah, Ella, Daisy, Polly and all the other amazing stars who I’ve been lucky enough to work with over the years.

International Women’s Day seems an apt time to share a little about my amazing Mother In Law. Jo was one the first cheerleaders of P & P, and continues to provide unending support.​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
Despite being born at time when she didn’t have the same opportunities in education as her male counterparts, Jo was one of 5 women (studying alongside 80 odd men) who enrolled at Leeds University to study law. She went on to become the first female partner in her local city, and retired as a well respected judge. ​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
Jo is a devoted mother and grandmother, a maker of magic memories ✨ She has faced devastating loss with grace, her compassion for those around her 💛​​​​​​​​

I think I can speak on behalf of both myself and my sister in law, and say we are very grateful she raised such kind, loyal (and funny) sons who aren’t afraid of strong minded, independent women 😆​​​​​​​​

Yesterday we had the pleasure of meeting and hosting the wonderful Chelsea Pensioners. After some time spent at school going on the slide, doing gymnastics and taking part in sports day, we provided some much needed refreshment!

What an entertaining and inspiring bunch of people! Safe travels home with ⚓️

We hope Di turns up for work today and hasn’t been taken to sea for her shortbread recipe! 😂

From Monday July the 19th, we have taken the decision to keep the COVID-19 restrictions in place.
This mean we still require our customers to wear face coverings and only one group inside at a time.

We really appreciate how patient everyone has been during this incredibly challenging time and would like to thank everyone whose called into the bakery this season! We’ve enjoyed seeing new people and all the returning familiar faces.

Thank you for all helping to keep our staff, customers and fellow islanders as safe as possible.

This Monday the 12th of July, the bakery will be opening at the slightly later time of 11am. This is to make sure the staff can do their patriotic duty of cheering the England team on Sunday night.

The bakery will be reopening for the season on April 20th .
This will be Barney’s 20th year of baking on St. Martins! Wow!
