While reading Romans 5 last week, I sketched the following picture:

That is me, standing in grace, receiving the love of the Holy Spirit that’s being poured out from a pitcher. Nice picture, right?

Jesus had other thoughts. When I showed him, he asked me to “look.” So I closed my eyes and pictured what I’d drawn. Then, in my mind, the door to the garage burst open and a flood of water came gushing through. It smashed through the dining room, swirled around my bedroom, pushed through the family room, kitchen, and all the bedrooms. It spiraled when it found something alive, like the kids and my chameleon. It was a tidal wave of love and grace, full of power and might!

So I sat there, having experienced such a rush, and glanced again at my little drawing. We aren’t standing in a puny bucket of grace, getting dripped on by God’s love through the Holy Spirit. He wants to completely deluge our hearts and minds with his love and grace! It’s powerful and complete!

I received that gift! I lived in it, felt it, and remembered it all week long. And so now, I share it with you. Maybe God wants to show you His love for you, too. I pray you take the time to “look.”

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. Romans 5:1-5

After taking a great risk with Boaz, Ruth is encouraged to not fear. And then... she waits. She goes home, as her fate and future is decided by the decisions of others. How familiar this is. How fragile we feel when our reality is out of our control, determined by others. The truth is that most of our life is out of our hands. We can do only what is in front of us. Ruth worked hard. She was a faithful friend. She obeyed. She had faith. She took risks. And she waited. Sometimes, that's all we can do too, trusting that the Author of our story goes before us, and He will guide us to the next chapter. -- When have you been in this position? Why is it so hard to wait?

Jesus said, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" He was forsaken to secure our eternal position in His family. And now, we aren't alone. The Spirit is with us and in us. So like Israel, we don't need to fear. The Lord is with us. 💛

What does it look like when a leader fears God? Jethro encouraged his son-in-law Moses to appoint men who feared God to help govern the Israelites.
