Retiring!
After 89 years and three generations,
the time has come to say goodbye.
The Bakery will close permanently on
July 1, 2018

Grainne has been operating the bakery for 32 years and it's time!

Our grandmother, Gertrude McAvey, began selling pies in 1929 on Pleasant Street in Worcester.
In 1934 she opened the bakery at it's current location.
Our father, Donald McAvey, took over the bakery after the death of his father in 1943. He married our mom, Frances(Tighe)McAvey in 1948 and they ran the bakery until 1986 when they retired. Then, Grainne, along with three of our brothers, Shawn, Mike and Murdoch took over.
Over the years families grew and things changed. Eventually Grainne became the sole proprietress and ran the bakery for the past many years. The younger generation has pursued other career paths and are not inclined to take over the bakery.

We have enjoyed being part of your lives over the years and feel many of you are extended family and not just customers. We hope we have enhanced your life in some small way as you have ours.
