Life is Won-Dough-Ful
My name is Kim. I am the co-owner/designer of Won-Dough-Ful Play LLC. I have raised 4 children, home-schooled them for many years, taught Sunday School for over 20 years, and taught 4th grade for about 10 years. I have A LOT of experience with kids! In fact, I love kids! I love watching their eyes light up when they learn something new. I love seeing the world through their eyes.
During these many years of working with children, I have loved coming up with creative ways to help them PLAY. Mister Rogers often said, “The serious work of a child is to play.” It is through creative sensory play that children learn to come in full contact with their senses. The smell of a rose. The softness of the petals. The ‘pricky-ness’ of the thorns. The ‘snap’ sound as the stem is broken. Play is important as well because it helps a child develop the ability to plan and ‘figure it out.’
In the early part of 2020, my daughter, SarahJoy Norris, came to me with an idea for playdough kits. She was the new momma of my newest granddaughter, making that three children under the age of 5. The need for a few moments of peace was her main motivation, looking for a way to entertain her 2 and 4 year old with some quiet, independent, safe play while she cared for the newborn.
She is also a ‘creative play’ expert, having studied education in college, worked full-time as a day camp director for preschool age children, teaching Sunday School, and now raising three little girls under the age of 5. She tried several different ‘recipes’ and developed the best playdough recipe that she could find--one that was safe for children, wouldn’t dry out little hands, and would be re-usable for many months. This is the basis for Won-Dough-Ful Play. This Dough, combined with different themed ‘bits-n-bobs’ forms our kits. Each kit is designed to give children the tools they need to use their senses in play, to develop their creativity, and instill learning within them.
