AN OPEN LETTER TO THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF WILMINGTON,NC
Dear Mr. Mayor:
Two months ago , a loyal customer of Tugboat Tony's Bagel Cafe at 106 N. Water Street wrote you a letter pointing out how the lack of parking was affecting
the businesses on Water Street between Princess and Chestnut due to the ongoing construction which has been in progress some three years. After no response,
the letter was posted on facebook and within 1 day, three 15 minute parking spots were designated in the private parking lot on Princess Street.
Four weeks ago the parking spaces were eliminated . Calls to the city were responded to with assurances that the parking spaces would be reinstated and we
are still waiting.
The repairs on this segment of Water Street have dragged on for years through delayed starting dates, contractor not working due to lack of payment by the city,
and quite honestly some lack of caring about the establishments on this part of Water Street. We have gone from June to July and now on to August and we have some doubts
since there are days where we see no one working and equipment sitting idly. We generally respond to our customers when they ask us how is business by stating we are a "non-profit". When a customer calls and asks us if the construction is still ongoing and we answer yes, they hang up. We see a rough road ahead when sidewalks and access to us will further hamper business if there
is no game plan in place.
Please re-instate the three 15 minute parking spaces in the private parking lot which now charges $6.00 an hour for parking.

Toys for Tots is a program run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve which distributes toys to children whose parents cannot afford to buy them gifts for Christmas. The program was founded in 1947 by reservist Major Bill Hendricks.
