Shoutout Sunday: space
With my best friend moving away this week, I’ve thought a lot about the spaces we’ve shared together. And how those places will be different now with all the space between us. It makes me reminisce about all the places I’ve lived, and how they shaped me.
Environment plays a huge role in how we grow and evolve as humans. Today I just want to take a moment to reflect and show gratitude for all the spaces that have led to my growth as an individual. From my childhood home, to my safe space in my room as a teen, to the crazy bar hall concerts and comedy shows that have made me feel alive, to the support groups and therapy rooms that held my tears. To the beautiful, romantic moments in nature, to the car stall that I pop my canopy up in to sell my rolls. All are different, but all have provided a place for me to show up as myself and create a unique energy there. And now I don’t look to places to hide myself, instead I look for spaces to show my true self.
Every Saturday, after cleanup but before I drive off, I always look back and thank the empty space left. Thank you for letting me serve here. Thank you for letting me hopefully provide an energy and a space for people that feels comfortable, and safe.
It took some learning to know that the place is never as important as the space. The place is just the location. The space is the energy. If your energy is right, it won’t matter the places you go. The location may change, we may move from one spot to another, but what we create in that space is what is magical.
They often post signs: “Leave it like you found it.”
I always go a step further, “Leave it better than I found it.” And I apply it to all spaces, places and people.
Join me, I’ll save some space for you . 💛
