I just posted soup and the weather is telling me it’s apple jalapeño chikn and sweet kale salad season. The corn tomato white bean situation is something delicious I threw together. Tasted good, might add the recipe later 😉

The weather in the DMV can’t decide if it wants to be hot or cold. It’s one of those cozy soup days, where I cut up and roasted squash during my breaks in between training. This really hit the spot. Find the recipe for the soup on the blog.

Happy New Year!

I made collard greens this year using my brother’s recipe and prepared black-eyed peas in the slow cooker. This tradition is simple, comforting, and just what I needed.

Food has always been at the center of Kale Von Celery, especially food made with care and intention. As I head into 2026, I’m still figuring out what that looks like. I’m in the middle of working towards my master’s in public health, and I want to use this space to share more of what I’m learning about health, community, and care in ways that feel real and accessible.

At the same time, I’m being honest with myself. Between school, work, mental health, life, and gestures wildly everything else, it’s possible this brand needs to rest, or at least change shape. I’m not completely comfortable with all the answers yet, so I’m working through that.

For now, I’ll keep cooking, honoring what came before, and seeing what’s next.

Do you eat collard greens and black eyed peas on New Year’s Day?

Mücver is filled with veggies and herbs. Zucchini brings antioxidants and fiber that help the body process estrogen naturally, while olive oil and fresh herbs add anti-inflammatory power. Together, they support hormone balance and reduce oxidative stress, small steps that add up for breast health.

I love this recipe because it’s flexible, pan-seared for crunch, baked for ease, perfect with a scoop of vegan yogurt or tahini sauce.

We show love in so many ways, checking in on our health is one of them.

When breast cancer is found early, before it spreads, the 5-year survival rate is around 99%, but we know access isn’t equal and that’s where community care steps in.

Schedule your mammogram. Remind a friend. Ask when and how you’ll get your results. Ask about patient navigators and lean on them if you need help. Awareness starts with one person. Care grows when we do it together.

Timely follow-up saves lives. Missed appointments, insurance hurdles, or transportation can delay diagnosis and treatment. Black women face more of these barriers, and that shows up as more metastatic diagnoses. Ask for patient navigation services and lean on NBCCEDP if cost is an issue (links in bio). Bring a support person and written questions with you to appointments if you need them. Everyone deserves on-time, high-quality care.

Soy’s had a bad reputation for years, but the science tells a different story. edamame and other soy foods can actually help protect breast health. This Green Harmony Salad blends soy protein, fiber, and fresh herbs as a simple way to nourish yourself while we talk TNBC this week.

Black women are diagnosed at similar or slightly lower rates than white women but are 38-40% more likely to die from breast cancer. This isn’t just biology. It’s delayed diagnosis and unequal access to high-quality care.

If you're 40–74, get a mammogram every other year (talk with your physician about your personal schedule).

If you need low or no cost options, check your state’s National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP) for free screening.
