When I started Honey Sue & Co., it was about so much more than baking. It was about honoring my mom, keeping a piece of her with me, and creating something special in her name. This is the heart of my why.
Then came sourdough. THAT has been a whole journey of its own! From creating my own starter, to being held hostage 2 to 3 days watching this thing for the exact right moments, to losing sleep bc if you know, you know. The lil jar on my counter weirdly brings me peace. I enjoy it and the more I worked on it, the more I realized that this little sourdough journey deserves something of its own. I wanted to give it its very own name and personality.
A LOT of thought went into this. I wanted something that would remind me of where I came from but at the same time, something that described who I am today and the journey that brought me here, all wrapped up in one little name. SO MUCH word play went into this trying to find that perfect combination!
The word caliche brings in a piece of home from La Bahia. It was the ground beneath my feet growing up. But also It's a reminder of where my story began. Down a dirt road called Pep Rd. Caliche is rough. It's hard. It's tough. It doesn't give easily.
Then there's Blush.
The softer side. The woman I've grown into. A little more grace, a little more tenderness, and a whole lot of learned patience.
And THAT is what I wanted the name to represent.
A little rough around the edges, but still soft where it matters. 🤎
Because if you know me, thats EXACTLY who I am. The Firefly just brings it together for me for the homey feel🤎
Caliche and blush are two words you would never expected together. And honestly, I like that. It may be a lil different but those two words represent so much for me. So with that being said, meet CALICHE AND BLUSH by Honey Sue & Co 🤎
