The Proof is in the Pudding!
In a League of my own!
10 years ago today.
A customer posted this about Dream Image Paint after I painted her daughter’s room:
“Brian Falls is the best painter!!!”
She also said I “saved her life” after she attempted the painting herself and then I came in and aggressively tackled the job .😂
Looking at this memory 10 years later got me thinking about something I see constantly in the contractor world:
Everybody thinks they’re competing with everybody.
They’re not.
I built Dream Image Paint from the ground up and stayed consistent before being an “entrepreneur” was trendy.
And that’s something money can't buy you.
You can buy equipment.
You can buy advertising.
You can hire people.
You can buy your way into visibility.
You can pay for likes, followers, positive reviews and people to rave about your business.
You can even pay Facebook group admins to help make sure you're seen while trying to keep someone else from being seen. (Not to mention any names Cough cough Wgrrr, HorizonWest Happenings, Winter Garden Community, We are Wg)😂😂😂💯
But you cannot buy being a business owner for over 10 years.
You can't buy the lessons.
You can't buy 10 years of showing up when nobody was watching.
You can't buy the consistency.
And you sure can't buy the time.
I've been self-employed in this trade for over a decade. I didn't become an entrepreneur because COVID made it trendy. I built a business, survived the hard years, adapted, kept showing up and stayed in the game.
And that matters when people start talking about “competition.”
If you haven't been in business for 10+ years, you're not really on my radar.
If you're married and your household has two incomes supporting the business, you're competing with contractors operating under those circumstances.
If most of your business comes from friends, family and your personal network, you're competing with contractors who rely on that network.
If you funded your business with family resources, savings, a business loan, or a mortgage on your house, you're competing with people who took that same route.
If you run a staffing model where you send painters to jobs but rarely do the actual production yourself, you're competing with other painting staffing companies.
Everybody isn't playing the same game.
Some people would love to call themselves my competition.
But being in the same industry doesn't automatically put you in the same league.
The misconception is thinking everybody is competing with everybody.
They're not.
I've spent over 10 years building my lane.
And the one thing nobody can buy their way into is the part that took the longest:
Time.
Consistency.
Longevity.
At this point, I don't even have to post the jobs I'm on. Facebook has already been storing my work for the last 10+ years. Every year, the Memories just start posting the receipts for me. 😂
Meanwhile…
Keep cranking out those non-creative, AI-infested, look-alike promo ads. 😂
And to the Facebook admins keep bogarting the Winter Garden/ Clermont Groups it's ok they still call me😂😂😂😂💯📲
COVID may have created a lot of entrepreneurs most with low integrity and business morals.
But....
It didn't create a decade of being a business owner.
Since 2015!
And that's the Dream Image Paint Difference💯
Been Doing this S**t, too far out ahead!🤘
