This western inspired set was such a fun one to create! From the cowboy boots, denim pockets, cacti, desert sunsets, and longhorn skulls to the sweet little "Wild One" they were so much fun to create for Wesson's first birthday!!

To complete this western first birthday theme, I paired the cookies with a buttercream cake featuring a painted desert landscape, towering cacti, and warm southwest colors.

I love when a cake and cookies come together to tell one beautiful and fun story!

Some cakes are extra special, and this one will always hold a special place in my heart.

This weekend I had the honor of creating this birthday cake for my dear friend, Tricia.

There are people who quietly change your life simply by showing up, loving you well, and believing in you—and Tricia is one of those people. During some of the lowest seasons of my life, when I was struggling with my health, she was there. She has a heart that is always giving, always encouraging, and always finding ways to lift others up.

If you know Tricia, you know she is one of the biggest cheerleaders for small businesses. She pours so much love into her community, celebrates the successes of others, and has a passion for helping people. She is truly one of the most beautiful souls I've ever met.

When her mom reached out about creating her birthday cake, I was beyond excited to make something as beautiful as the woman it was for.

Every detail was designed with intention. I hand-painted each Western-inspired landscape onto fondant, then carefully color-matched the painted details to the beautiful floral ribbon used for the bows. From the soft vintage piping to the dreamy cowgirl-inspired scenes, every element was created with love.

Happy Birthday, Tricia. Thank you for being the light you are to so many of us. I hope this cake reminded you, even for a moment, how deeply loved and appreciated you are.

A little business and life update. 🤍

First, I want to thank each and every one of you for your patience, kindness, and understanding over the past several weeks. Your grace has meant more to me than you know.

Many of you know that my dad has been facing some significant health challenges, and we've been spending a lot of time traveling to appointments and coordinating his care. Last week, he underwent surgery on his leg, and we're incredibly thankful that it was successful. While he did have an unexpected reaction to one of the medications afterward, he's recovering well, and the pain in his leg has improved tremendously.

He is continuing treatments, and in mid-August we'll be traveling back to Mayo Clinic for additional scans to prepare for a major surgery in early September to repair his aortic aneurysm.

As you can imagine, balancing family, hospital visits, my full-time job, and Little Blackbird Bakery has made this season especially full. I'm doing my very best to stay caught up on emails, messages, and orders, but my response time has been a little slower than normal. Please know that I'm not ignoring anyone, I'm simply doing my best to try and balance everything while continuing to provide the quality and care that each of my clients deserves. If I have missed a message from you please do not hesitate to reach out to me again because I don't want anyone to slip through the cracks. That is always my worst fear so please don't hesitate to reach out to me again if it's been more than a few days since we've last spoke.

I truly appreciate every order, every kind message, every prayer, and every ounce of patience you've shown our family. Your support allows me to continue doing what I love while also being present for the people who need me most.

Thank you for walking through this season with us. It means more than words can express. 🤍

Home. ❤️

What a whirlwind this week has been.

Between traveling back and forth for my dad's appointments at Mayo, processing a lot of emotions, and then getting caught in the storms and flooded highways on our way home yesterday, I feel like we've barely had a chance to catch our breath.

We're so thankful to be home with some encouraging news and a clearer plan for what's ahead. While we still have a long road in front of us, we're holding onto hope and taking it one day at a time.

If you've reached out to me about cookies, cakes, or anything else over the last several days, thank you so much for your patience. I'm working my way through messages, emails, and orders today and over the next day or two, so if you haven't heard back from me yet, I promise I haven't forgotten about you.

Thank you to everyone who has checked in on us, prayed for my dad, sent kind messages, or simply been patient while I've been away. Your love and support have carried us through more than you know. ❤️

To my wonderful clients and supporters,

I wanted to share a personal update and ask for your prayers during a difficult season for my family.

My dad was recently diagnosed with lung cancer and is trying new treatment options. In addition to his cancer diagnosis, he is facing several serious vascular health challenges that will require ongoing treatment, surgery, and consultations with specialists in the coming weeks and months.

Over the next two weeks, I will be traveling back and forth to Iowa City to stay with him during his treatments while helping support my family through this process.

I will also be taking time away from work at the bank when needed to help care for my dad and be present for appointments, treatments, and recovery. As a small business owner, this time away creates additional financial strain and uncertainty for my family. One of the most meaningful ways you can support us during this season is by continuing to place future orders with Little Blackbird Bakery. Your support helps provide stability and security for my family while allowing me the flexibility to be there for my dad when he needs me most.

I want to reassure all of my clients that every order currently booked for June and July will be completed as planned. Little Blackbird Bakery remains committed to serving you, although there may be times when my response time to messages and inquiries is a little slower than usual. I appreciate your patience and understanding as I balance my business with supporting my family during this time.
