We’re so excited to be heading back to the Wags to Whiskers Festival for our THIRD year!

Supporting local rescues and organizations doing the hard work for animals in our community has always been incredibly important to us, and the Humane Society for Greater Nashua is one of the many we’re proud to show up for year after year.

Plus, Wags to Whiskers is just a damn good day. 😂
Dogs everywhere, local vendors, rescue organizations, and thousands of people who love their animals just as much as we do.

🐾 Wags to Whiskers Festival
📅 Saturday, September 12
⏰ 11 AM – 3 PM
📍 Holman Stadium, Nashua

Come find the Buff Cake tent, stock your pup up on treats, say hi, and spend the afternoon supporting an organization doing some pretty incredible work right here in our community.

We’ll see you there! 🐶🐾

A little weekend update…

Unfortunately, we’ve made the decision to cancel our scheduled markets in Portsmouth today and Nashua tomorrow.

We hate missing market days, but sometimes you have to recognize when sitting one out is the right call. 🤍

Both markets are still happening and will be full of some pretty amazing local vendors, so if they were already part of your weekend plans, please still go show them some love!

And if Buff Cake was on your shopping list, you can still get your fix! 🐶

Need a treat restock? Check out one of our local retail partners, or reach out and we’ll help you find the closest one.
Not near a shop? You can always order online, too.

I’ll also be updating our cookie quantities online today to reflect what we currently have available.

We’ll keep you posted on where you can find us next.

Thanks for understanding and, as always, for supporting small. 🐾

Here are 5 things we have been asked about… and the why “you should make…” isn’t always quite as simple as it sounds.

❎ Cat treats: That’s a whole new product line, with different ingredients, development and production needs.

❎ Training treats: Essentially another new product line. A smaller treat sounds simple, but it still means another cutter, production schedule, bags, labels, inventory and storage.

❎ CBD treats: Can you say regulatory nightmare? We’ll happily stay in our lane on this one.

❎ Seasonal flavors: Fun in theory. Less fun when every new flavor means additional product registrations and fees just to sell it for a short season.

❎Shelf-stable soft treats: Can you say preservative list the size of a CVS receipt? Not exactly our limited-ingredient vibe.

Here’s the part people don’t necessarily see: a new product isn’t just a new recipe.

It’s labels, Bags, Registration Fees, Storage, Inventory, and Production time.

So trust us, we’ve probably thought about it…and then we thought about everything that comes with it. 🤌🏼

These messages came from the same customer, and safe to say, they absolutely made our week when she sent them.

Knowing someone goes looking for Buff Cake because they’ve found something their dog loves AND can tolerate is one of those reminders of why we started doing this in the first place.

PLUS, a little love for the local shops that keep our treats within reach, too.

Thank you for choosing us, recommending us and getting genuinely excited about a restock. 🫶🏼

Monday Mood: circa 2022?!

YES. And it’s back when Zane was modeling with our new-at-the-time label revision.

Three label revisions in one year is totally normal when you own a small business, amiright? 😂

For real though… finding this photo gave me ALL the feels because the original post, from March 2022, also happened to be the one where we announced that Zane was officially CANCER FREE!! 🙏🏼

What a relief that was. ❤️

But back to our regularly scheduled Monday Mood, courtesy of Zane…

Spy photo #2 and the level of anticipation happening here. 😂😂

Remember those pink + purple ice cream cones from Thursday? 🍦

Well, we asked what flavor your dog thought they should be… but the actual answer is:

Peanut Butter Pumpkin cookies topped with our dye-free icing, made with ingredients including yogurt powder and milk solids.

Now that you’ve seen them behind the scenes, here’s what they look like finished, packaged up and ready for some very deserving taste testers. 🐾

‼️And YES, we’ll have them with us TODAY at Live Freely Fest while they last!

📍 Applecrest Farm
133 Exeter Road
Hampton Falls, NH
📅 Saturday, August 22
⏰ 10 AM–5 PM

Come find Buff Cake and grab one for your favorite taste tester! 🍦🐶

Because obviously ice cream season applies to dogs, too.

Friday 5: Things We Won’t Do as a Small Business

There are a million different ways to run a business.
These are just a few lines we’ve decided we’re pretty comfortable staying on our side of.

1. Build ourselves up by tearing another small business down.
Even if we disagree with how someone does something, you won’t see us stitch their content just to explain why they’re “wrong” or why our way is better. Small business is hard enough without doing that to each other.

2. Overpromise just to make a sale.
Can we tell you what YOUR dog will love? Nope.
Can we tell you what our customers love, what’s most popular and help you make the best choice? Absolutely.

3. Put out a communal water bowl.
We have a dog who had Giardia from contaminated water (prior to our adoption), and that experience stuck with us.
No judgment toward businesses that offer them, but it’s one thing we personally won’t do.

4. Stop supporting animal rescue.
We know rescue isn’t how everyone chooses to bring a dog into their family, and that’s okay. It’s simply where our passion lies. We’re proud to support several rescues throughout the year and hope to make that an even bigger part of Buff Cake as we grow.

5. Stray too far from our lane.
We found our niche, we love our niche, and we think we fit pretty darn well here.
We’ll keep evolving, experimenting and trying new things, but at the end of the day, we make treats for dogs, and we’re pretty happy about that. 🐾

Five “little” boundaries that we feel make a big difference.

Event season means lots of baking, lots of decorating and apparently an exorbitant number of dog friendly ice cream cones (cookies). 😂

Our everyday crunchy treats may be the backbone of Buff Cake, but getting creative with cookies will always be one of my favorite parts.

And since dogs are notoriously opinionated about important matters, we have a question…

If your dog got to choose the flavor, what would they pick? 🍦

💗 Pink: Strawberry or Cotton Candy?

💜 Purple: Blueberry or Black Raspberry?

Or would your dog completely ignore our choices and demand another flavor? 😂
