This time I created a giant chocolate chip cookie cake for a Belton High School graduate!

The niche crossover between custom cookies and DCC readers may be small… but I KNOW y’all are out there. 👀

Why should I book so far in advance?

One of the biggest misconceptions about decorated cookies is thinking they can be made in one day. 🤪

Custom cookies usually involve:
🍪 mixing dough
🍪 chilling dough
🍪 baking
🍪 cooling
🍪 making multiple icing colors
🍪 questioning life decisions around midnight
🍪 layering icing
🍪 drying time between details
🍪 packaging + heat sealing

…and that doesn’t include all the other orders on the calendar, sketching designs, messaging customers, grocery runs, or me trying to figure out why the pink I mixed at 2 pm suddenly looks completely different at 11 pm. 😅

Most custom orders take several DAYS from start to finish … especially during graduation season, teacher appreciation, holidays, and sports banquet season.

So if you know you need cookies:

POV: you said you wanted a “small” baby shower set and then I casually go big with all the small details. ☕👶🏻😂

Elite.

Tiny coffee beans. Neutral tones. Little baby footprints. The ruffles on that onesie?! I cannot.

Also worth noting: those little coffee beans are approximately the size of my patience by the end of the school year. 🙃🤎

Almost done! I can see the light at the end!

May for cookie decorators is basically:

🎓 graduation season
💐 wedding season
🏫 teacher appreciation
⚾ sports banquets
🎂 birthdays

…and everyone suddenly realizing they needed cookies “for this weekend.”

Meanwhile I’m over here:

🕰️ heat sealing at midnight
💬 talking to icing about playing nice
🫧 washing the same spatula 84 times
😅 and hoping nobody asks why I’m living in pajamas

But honestly?

I love seeing all the celebrations come together. When I snap those pics of the final set, I get all worked up because so much of me goes into every single cookie, and I’m proud and honored.

… even if my decorating corner currently looks like a royal icing tornado touched down in Central Texas.

I’ve been tossing around the idea of adding monthly “cookie drops” ... things like chunky gourmet cookies, cakesicles, mini sets, seasonal decorated cookies, etc.

Before I accidentally create chaos for myself, I wanted to get REAL feedback from actual humans. 😂

There’s a reason for the name Five Twenty-Two.

Five Twenty-Two is named after 5/22 — the day a tornado hit my neighborhood and my house with me & my boys inside.

The aftermath was heavy. I found myself in a chaotic headspace.

I had never made a sugar cookie.

Just needed something that felt calm again.

Meet Frank, the tallest, oldest tree in our neighborhood. He broke in the tornado, and for some reason… that hurt me deeply.

So, I decorate by the window as I watch him rebuild. 🌳🤍
