It's getting to be that time of year when we think about Thanksgiving Pie orders! For the next few weeks we'll feature a pie that'll be available for pre-order for Thanksgiving, and this week it'll be Maple Pecan. This is one of my favorites, and I love when it's finally time to start featuring it again.

We're sticking with Pumpkin Chocolate Scones for the rest of the month, and today we added some Apple Muffins. We also have Pineapple Turnovers and Strawberry Cream Cheese Baby Danes.

I mentioned our new Harissa Roasted Eggplant sandwich the other day. I think it's sandwich perfection, but if you aren't sold on the Eggplant of it all, we can swap it out for a seared chicken breast. Delightful either way.

Be sure to find us tomorrow evening at Music on Main in Heritage Square! We'll also be open Friday evening for Mexi-Mezze Platters or Cheese and Charcuterie Boards. We've been struggling to find coverage for these evening shifts, so we're going to pull back on them for the time being until we can get enough people trained up. When we come back, we'll have a brand new w**e list, so to clear out some space for the new, we're having a 20% off bottles sale all this week. So stop by for date night Friday, take a bottle home, and watch this space for an announcement of when we'll be back at it.

Speaking of: We are hiring! We're in need of experienced line cooks who know their way around a steak, have made multiple carbonaras in an evening, and can handle the pressure of a busy service. We are not able right now to train enthusiastic home cooks, though we see and admire you. If you're qualified and interested, please send a resume to: [email protected]. I'm super excited to introduce a new menu item--the vegetarian Harissa-Roasted Eggplant Sandwich. I think this is the platonic ideal of a lunch. We've got a spicy harissa schmear on one side and a pepita spread on the other. In between there's basil, feta, cucumbers, tomatoes, arugula, and that harissa eggplant. We grill the sourdough up for a little extra crunch. Want it vegan? We can skip the feta and use olive oil to grill it. Either way, it's an absolute delight.

And I'm in the kitchen tonight making cajeta. What am I doing with it? The spirits haven't told me yet. But at some point in the next two days I'll be glad I have it.

We're sticking with Pumpkin Chocolate Scones and Blueberry Muffins this week. And we have Apple Butter Turnovers, Peaches and Cream Baby Danes, and, for a savory bite, a new Harissa Chicken roll-up (listen, I made a lot of harissa).

Don't forget to stop in tomorrow night for a Cheese and Charcuterie Board or a Mexi-Mezze Platter. We have a couple aged Goudas from Antonelli's I'd love you to try side by side.

Then on Saturday, we'll have Broccoli Taleggio Quiches, our usual Cinnamon Rolls, Orange Morning Buns, and Chocolate Fig Morning Buns. I'm thinking if I have a minute betwen now and then, I'll try to get some Chai Panna Cotta going. And a pie. What pie are we doing? I'm open to suggestions, particularly those that include cajeta.

And! There are two important events this Saturday.

First is the Empty Bowl Project. Art Off Center sponsors this event every year to benefit Shelter Taylor. To participate, get your tickets at https://secure.anedot.com/empty-bowls-fundraiser/donate. $25 gets you a hand-made ceramic bowl filled with soup from Flake Bakery or lots of other restaurants around town. Or just stop by St. James' Episcopal Church, Taylor, Texas on Saturday.

Then, Saturday afternoon at 2, the Neighborhood Bottle Shop is showing the documentary Bottle Conditioned all about Lambics. We'll be selling cheese and charcuterie boards, snack boxes, and other treats. We had a a special request this week, so as a last wave goodbye to summer, we're serving up a Lattice-Topped Blueberry Pie. She'll be a doll.

Speaking of the end of summer, we're officially rolling out more fall flavors with our Pumpkin Chocolate scones. These are just lightly sweetened and lightly spiced, so nothing too heavy or cloying. They're perfect with one of our Lattes.

What an organic segue that is into our new house-made syrup for espresso drinks--Maple Pecan. Try it in a latte, or for something really decadent, add it to our Hot Cocoa.

For the lunch menu, we've brought back the Creamy Carrot Soup. With the Grilled Cheese, it's a perfect rainy-weather meal. Also keep an eye out for some new roll-ups and savory turnovers, as well as a few lunch combos coming down the track.

I'm super excited to let y'all know we'll be at Fiesta Taylor this Saturday! We're rolling out a special menu just for the festival. Look for the Pork and Tomatillo Roll-Ups you already love, plus Roll-Ups or Hand Pies with Chicken Suizas, Chicken Tinga, and Shredded Beef in Red Sauce fillings. We're adding an option to have them covered in Cabbage, Radish, Avocado, Crema, and Carrot Habanero Salsa. I'm doing everything I can not to call them FlakyChangas, but I'm a flawed and weak human being, and I don't know how long I can hold out.

As for the rest of the week, the Maple Pecan Scones were a hit, so we're sticking with those, along with the Crumble Cake Muffins. We're figuring out Turnover and Danish fillings as we go. But I'm thinking an Almond Joi (no trademark violations here) Pie sounds good for Saturday. This'll be a Chocolate Pastry Cream, Toasty Coconut, Caramel, and Roasted Almonds in our signature pie crust.
Edit: those candy bars don't have caramel. This pie does. It's too late to go back on the name.

We'll also have Orange Morning Buns and Cinnamon Rolls on Saturday. I might try a third flavor, but I don't have it sorted yet.

One thing of note up top: the shop will be closed Thursday evening only (4 PM - 8 PM) so we can be at Music on Main. Come see us there!

We are starting in on our fall flavors this week, current weather notwithstanding. Maybe if we start, the temps outside will follow.

This morning, and for the rest of the week, we have Maple Pecan Scones that will knock your socks off. Aaron topped them with a little Maldon salt, and they just pop.

Also in the case are crumble cake muffins with a cinnamon drizzle.

Saturday we'll do a caramel banana cream pie, cinnamon rolls, our new Nutella rolls, and orange rolls.

Last, quiches will be Jalapeno Popper--roasted jalapenos, cream cheese, and cheddar. If you're a bacon person, we can add bacon on top when you order.

This weeks Scones are Peach, the Muffins are Blueberry, and the Pies are--so you know how good stirring honey into peanut butter and then dipping apple slices into it is? That's the pie. Apple pie filling with a peanut butter honey pastry cream. I'm saving one for myself for sure.

And we've come to that point in our lives once again where we need the name for a new menu item. It's basically a pared-down lunch version of our Mexi-Mezze platter--Flatbread with a spicy pepita spread, seared chicken thighs, shredded lettuce, radishes, carrot habaneo salsa, cotija, avocado, and a lime yogurt drizzle. If you have any ideas on what to call this delightful monster, let me know. Photo below was our first draft. It was good good. You'll love it.

Available starting tomorrow, Thursday.

I'm really looking forward to this Saturday's pie: German Chocolate. Like literally, is there a better combination in this world than Chocolate, Caramel, Coconut, and Pecans? I cannot wait.

We're also introducing a new grab-and-go option to our cold case: starting this week we'll have little snack boxes. They'll have Crackers, Fruit, and Really Good Cheese (this week it's 3-year-aged Gouda), plus your choice between Chicken Salad or Carrot Pkhalli. It's the perfect quick bite to get you through your day.

Last weekend we reintroduced our Orange Morning Buns, and they were a big hit. So look for those this Saturday, along with our Cinnamon Rolls and Sticky Buns. And for the rest of the week we'll have Blueberry Lemon Scones, Raspberry White Chocolate Muffins, and a rotating selection of Sweet Turnovers.

Don't forget that we're open in the evenings on Thursdays and Fridays to serve all your happy hour needs. Come in for Cheese and Charcuterie, a Mexi-Mezze Platter, or lots of other shareable plates. We also have lovely w**es to choose from and a few fun beers to check out.

Not too long ago, we had Esteban on our team as a dishwasher. I'm not sure I've ever met a harder worker or anyone with a better attitude. He was dealing with a lot and still showed up, still finished the job, and made grandpa jokes doing it. After we closed we'd crank up some classic country and sing while we cleaned up for the day.

He recently passed away, and his family is offering treats made by his daughter-in-law to help pay for his services. If you're able to purchase or to contribute, please do. He was a very good, kind, and decent man.

So sorry for the delay this week! It's crazy how every morning it's a day later than the one before. But we're here now. Here's what we've got for today and tomorrow:

Blueberry Lemon Scones will be around both days, along with Raspberry White Chocolate Muffins. Tomorrow Cinnamon Rolls and Sticky buns will be back, as well as Peach and Cardamom Cream Pies, Asparagus Mascarpone Quiche, and--if all goes according to plan--some Orange Morning Buns.

Important announcement: We are here today for our regular hours, but we will be CLOSED this evening to cater a private event. I'll do a story about it too but just a heads up.

Starting tomorrow, Blueberry Lemon Scones and back! Be sure to order online or call ahead because these are our most popular flavor. We'll also have Lemon Poppy Muffins for the rest of the week.

I'm hoping to have a few mini Coconut Cream Tarts tomorrow as well, then look for Cinnamon Rolls this Saturday. Other Saturday specials will be: a Strawberry Lime Cream Pie, Jalapeno Popper Quiche, and a Roasted Bell Pepper, Scallion, Cream Cheese, and Mozzarella Roll-Up with Habanero Carrot Mayo.
