Middle Earth

Middle Earth We Gardened and small animal husbandry(ied) on ten acres in Northwestern WI, South of Lake Superior for 9 years. In 2016 I moved my Hobbits to Superior. Namaste.

(2007-2016) "We try to grow and raise most of our own food. We have two vegetable gardens, fruit trees and other fruits. We raise bees, chickens, turkeys and geese. Hopefully we will be getting into quadrupeds soon. The Name Middle Earth Farm is after the Middle River, which runs through our property. It is sort of fitting, because I am raising 3 little Hobbits. . ;). DISCLAIMER- I refer to My Hu

sband/best friend as Bumble in my posts and pics. This is not a derogatory term. It refers to the snow monster in Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer, he likes to keep pretty anonymous online."

2016 on: I moved to Superior WI. We live in what looks like Snow White's house. It is known locally as the Ginger Bread house of Central Park. I am continuing to garden, but on a much smaller scale. I am very passionate about the "food" that is being sold to the American people, and I post a lot of articles and opinions about that. I believe that the Mind, Body and Soul should be in homeostasis for true health. What we feed our bodies and do to them directly correlates. I hope to teach this to my children. I post info and antidotes that I feel are important. I try not to offend people who "like" my page, (although some of my opinions may seem harsh to some). And I hope that you respect my page and other readers in your posts as well.

Often associated with vampires, witchcraft, and darkness, bats have gotten a pretty bad rap in our stories and lore. And yet, bats are a sure ally in the backyard, helping the gardener in more ways

This is a lovely visual of why holding your baby helps them adjust to life on the outside. The message it contains is not limited to the fourth trimester either. The same still applies afterwards too, babies love to be held and thrive with high levels of contact.

ADD HORSETAIL TO YOUR BEAUTY ROUTINE!
The herb of the week isn't just great for your kidneys and your bones, it's incredible for your skin and hair and nails too!

Below are two recipes for horsetail that you might not have known were good for you!

For safety-conscious wildcrafters: the young stems of Horsetail hold the most nutritional value. You can use them fresh or dry. Dry is most easily available for non-wildcrafters!

#1 Hair and nail Strengthening Tea
Frequency: Drink 2-4 times per day for a month

Ingredients:
3 parts horsetail
1 part lemon balm
add a little pinch sugar or honey to help pull out the silica.

How to:
use two tablespoons of the herb blend
pour almost boiling water over it
add your honey/sugar
let the herb steep for 7-9 minutes or until cool enough to drink.
#2 Breakout Busting Compress
Frequency: Use once per week

Ingredients:
3 parts Horsetail
1 part Calendula

How to:
Place 1 Tablespoon of dry herbs in a bowl and pour in boiling water, allow it to cool to medium-warm.
Dip a clean towel into the water and place it over your face, eyes closed. Relax and let the herbal elixir soak into your skin.
Rinse and pat dry.

How do you use horsetail in your routine?
