Harvest season is SO fun but also.. sooooo much work!

In the past 6 days I’ve frozen 32 cups of zucchini, a few lbs of green beans and Swiss chard, laid out some of my delicata squash to cure, made pickles, pineapple jalapeño jam, more cowboy candy, froze a few lbs of blackberries.. and planted my fall garden 😵‍💫😆

It’s pickle season! Refreshed my homemade pickle seasoning jar after making a batch the other night.

2 tbs peppercorns
2 tbs whole coriander
2 tbs mustard seed
2 tbs dill seed
1 tbs salt
1 tbs whole allspice
2 bay leaves, crushed

Toss in a jar and give it a good shake!

To use, add about 2-3 tbs for every 32 ounces of brine [e.g 2 c ACV, 2 c water, 6 tbs sugar, 1/4 c pickling salt]

I like to tie mine in cheese cloth and let it steep in the brine as it boils for about 20 minutes, like a tea bag.

Add a bay leaf, dill sprig and a clove of garlic to your jars, pack hard with cukes, cover in your brine, and water bath can for 15 minutes, adjusted for elevation!

I HAVE BLACKBERRIES!!!

My husband has been caring for an oldddd family farm property that’s no longer in use and he came across some bushes that we thought we were gonna be raspberry bushes this spring.. well I went by to check on them and turns out they were blackberries and there’s a ton and I’m so excited!!

I definitely plan to grab a couple canes to plant in our yard, but for now, I will suffer the thorns and pick the bejesus out of these!!

They have the texture of a small cherry tomato but taste way sweeter, floral and fruity- like a pineapple mixed with tomato maybe?

Someone and her baby decided to help themselves to my squash last night. I saw them in the evening so I covered my pumpkins at least! Thankfully they only got the one.. but after losing so many to the big fat gray squirrels last year.. I think next year will come with a fence!

I clearly have been neglecting them, hence the nymphs.. but after a duct tape battle tonight.. I am hoping I caught up with most of it for now.

Duct tape is the only real way I’ve been successful battling these suckers!!

We are so blessed with this Co-Op style farmstand that gives so many people the opportunity to share their goods with others!

We’ve got a whole BUNCH of fresh jams and jellies headed to the stand at Foxx Run Farm LLC just in time for Maine Open Farm Day, this Sunday!

They also have a bunch of delicious GF and Sourdough goodies, honey, goat milk soaps, hand made wooden utensils and so so much more!

They will be offering $10 pony rides from 10-12 on Sunday!
