I got lazy last week & skipped a few feeds which is honestly not that unusual for us. Sometimes I get busy okay? She is a strong starter & she has never failed me this way in 3 years!
I’m thinking the warmer temp + humidity in my house & me waiting too long to build up some strength for dough day hit her hard this time.
She still needs a few high ratio feeds to get some of the acidity down. She will be 100% by Wednesday when you have your order in!
I will let this be a lesson. ☺️

A real life nightmare for Kate’s Bakes.
My starter, Levi, is behaving weak & sluggish, so I’m unable to bake with it this week. Orders are cancelled & refunded. I’m so sad.
Good news is she is still showing signs of life! I also have a back up that was dormant in my fridge, so reviving her too just in case.

Kitchen closed while I troubleshoot of course. I may have a drop later this week, so still be on the lookout for me in your texts.

I had NO preorders for this weekend 🤷🏻‍♀️
The books say this is the first time in 8 months, but that is okay! I get to spend (always needed) quality time with my family. Also anyone familiar with small business owners knows that there really isn’t much off time.
✨Believe in me & my work behind the scenes to build this little bakery that is so big in my heart.✨ Even when little (to no!) orders come in.

Migrating this to a gratitude, praise post too.. ☺️

Kate’s Bakes has reconnected me with people from all parts of my past. It is absolutely beautiful. No matter what part of my life they were in these people order & come to my house to get a baked good from me that I’ve seriously made with my heart. It makes me feel so so loved & I am praising that love!
I’m so grateful I get to talk with & see the people that I’ve had the pleasure of knowing in the past. Hearing how much their lives have moved, their families, their careers- it is just beautiful.

I’ve rekindled past relationships with two other bakers from my past. What a blessing they both have been.

& more recently (pictured) The Dough Diaries (for my Pevely sourdough people) took time out of her crazy schedule & shared SO much of her knowledge with me. She has blooomed in her cottage bakery & is truly an inspiration to me!
