Have you ever tried ๐๐ข๐๐ก๐ข ๐โ๐๐ง๐๐ข๐? ๐ต
In English, theyโre called ๐ฉ๐ซ๐ข๐๐ค๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐ฉ๐๐๐ซ๐ฌ, and if youโre in the U.S., you may have spotted them at H-E-B or other grocery stores without really knowing what they were.
Theyโre actually the ๐๐ซ๐ฎ๐ข๐ญ of the prickly pear cactus, which grows everywhere here in Southern Italy, especially in Puglia and Sicily. And they happen to be one of my absolute favorite fruits. โค๏ธ
Late summer is the perfect time to enjoy them. They come in beautiful shades of yellow, orange, red and purple, and once you get past that very prickly skin, the inside is incredibly juicy and sweet.
Of course, getting to the good part requires knowing how to handle themโฆ.those tiny spines are no joke! ๐
