People are sad (everyone for their own reasons).
I am sad to have a tiny gap in service. Not because people will miss their cookies or waffles, but because we are a safe space that sees and celebrates everyone.

Yes, we are open regular hours tomorrow, December 24th.
We are closed on Sunday,December 25th and also our regularly closed day, Monday 26th.

After ten and a half years, we are being forced to move.
I’ve waited on this announcement so we didn’t get booted earlier.
We’re technically allowed to stay in our spot, but not allowed to make food.
This is obviously not an option (considering our rent is also increasing).
After December 31st- we’re out.

Sometimes (rarely), someone is completely adverse to what we have to offer.
That's completely understandable, not everyone can embrace us (although we think we're pretty great)!
What's not cool- failing to talk to us about your "spit my food out" experience and instead putting up an app only review. I'm doubtful this actually happened because we're hyper aware of food left on plates.
So, I saw this review only because my friend and fellow business owner shared it with me. He does actually check reviews.

We got to make a really beautiful cake for a really beautiful couple recently.

June is PRIDE month! 🌈
We are also quietly celebrating our 10 year anniversary. I say quietly because we haven’t had a grand opening or a birthday party ever AND, the focus is on PRIDE month.
We opened our doors just as Referendum 74 (marriage equality) was hitting the streets.
It was kind of scary to step up and lend a voice (about anything other than cupcakes really).
We saw what we had to do!
Host phone banks, feed volunteers, put signs in our windows, put our name on public petitions, all of it.
Marriage equality and gay and transgender equality are CIVIL RIGHTS.
There is no politicizing this issue.
ALL HUMANS MATTER!

I tend to keep things fairly private.
Today was an incredible day for me.
My daughter competed in the state hammer comp and although she placed 6th overall, she got a PR and a medal.
My husband (and daily business partner) has been Covid positive since Monday morning. This is such a huge deal to our business and our lives.
We don’t get to hang out or sleep together. A first in 20 plus years of being a thing.
Now, most importantly-
I got to help a new mom who’s beautiful baby has severe food allergies, navigate what was safe for her to eat.
She was overly grateful and I can only imagine how very hard the struggle must be (the allergy list was long).
I also got to chat with long time regulars who also have several allergies, some of which are life threatening. They conveyed their appreciation and were so thankful we existed.
We did not begin as an allergy free/safe space. Ten years in, I am so happy to hear personal stories about how we’ve “helped” people.
You start a business with a vision, but then it evolves and you go with the organic.

Hey.
Lots of days we receive hateful social media messages. Lots of days we interact with angry and upset and sometimes aggressive customers.
I shared this with some customers today and they were shocked. They had no idea this was a “thing”.
All of these interactions leave me feeling very sad.
We don’t want to upset anyone but realize that is fairly impossible at the moment.
I cried for a long time last night.
I woke up with a resolve to focus on the positive and to not give as much energy to the negative.
Today was a magnificent day!
So many happy people.
So busy. So good.

A kind gentleman came in today with his tiny toddler and his tiny new baby.
They were grateful for dine in and sat down for some food and of course, tiny cupcakes for the toddler.
We fawned and engaged and danced with the sweet little girl.
Tiny baby started to fuss and hands full dad struggled to get them both packed back up in their stroller.
Oh- you don’t need to leave because he’s fussing. We’re completely fine with it.
It’s ok, we need to get back to the hospital.
Oh my gosh, is your wife sick?
No, her baby brother is going to pass.
Our eyes fill with tears.
Wait, what?
He’s 2 and he has cancer and is not going to make it.
We thought he beat it, but he didn’t.
Oh my gosh. This is horrible, we’re so very sorry. Our tears welling.
It’s ok. Thank you for your hospitality. This place is great. We will definitely be back when we visit.
This is what caring for others is about.
Providing a safe spot for kind people who are going through an excruciatingly horrible
and heartbreaking journey will never be the wrong decision.

Most days I feel like I’m tap dancing as fast as I can and I still can’t catch up. Today I had a few extra minutes so I made a video for you, showing you how to make the very popular Potato Croquettes with Herb Mayo. Got everything set up, chopped, laid out, etc. Rigged my phone up on top of a stockpot, tied to a gallon jug of vinegar with some fancy twine. I envisioned such great things, despite my lack of polish. I made two videos (one after the croquettes were partially cooked) so that my tech savvy daughter could edit them together for my masterpiece. Nailed it. 🤣🤣🤣 Second video in the comments. 🤦♀️ 🤣🤷♀️
