There is no worse feeling for a cake maker than hearing a thud in the box when delivering a cake!!!!! That’s exactly what happened on my way to my third attempt at the Cincinnati Bake Off this week! Someone was tailing me and I tried to create some space between us and took the curve just sharp enough my entire cake project fell over. My grandson and I got it back home and I did 23 minutes of repair work on it and rushed out the door to deliver it to Xavier University to be judged along with the other entries!! (This is why you transport your cakes very chilled with internal supports, or a repair would not have been possible!) Tonight was finally my night and I won that coveted golden rolling pin!😂 I had previously entered in cake decorating and lost to another amazing local cake artist, and entered once in the cookie/brownie category. My biggest supporter, my grandson was with me to capture it and cheer me on and watched me have a near meltdown with minutes to spare the night before to repair it in the nick of time. Meet Gertie the Ghost, gathering flowers for her little ghosty friends. Pumpkin cake with caramel-all scratch as usual and required (despite being sponsored by Betty Crocker, Duncan Hines and Pillsbury!!😂😂) It was a fun night!
