I don’t accept inspiration photos for custom cakes, and I want to explain why.
While I do look at inspiration photos when clients send them, I don’t use them as a direct guide or accept them as a “copy this cake” request. In the past, I found that relying on inspiration photos can create unrealistic expectations, since those designs were created by another artist with their own techniques, tools, and style.
Every cake artist has a different skill set, and what’s achievable for one person may not translate exactly the same way for another. For me, trying to recreate someone else’s work doesn’t do justice to my artistry—or to the client’s expectations.
Instead, I’ve shifted to a more personalized design process. I gather inspiration from you—their event details, color scheme, invitations, theme, and overall vibe. From there, I also do my own research to see what styles and elements are trending or commonly used for that type of design.
Then I take all of that information and create a custom cake design in my own style, based on what I know I can execute beautifully and consistently.
This approach keeps things clearer, more realistic, and ensures that the final cake is truly custom to you—not just a copy of someone else’s work.
This cake is a perfect example of why I love my design process. One of my returning customers came to me with a theme but trusted me with the creative direction. After I put together a custom concept based on her vision, she loved it and added a few personal touches of her own.
Working this way allows us to create something unique together instead of trying to recreate someone else’s work—and I think the end result is so much more special. I can’t wait to show you all how it turns out! ゚
