When you’re planning a trip to Puglia, you will quickly realize that the region is vast which makes it challenging to know where to stay that is central to the towns you want to visit.
I struggled with where to stay and did A LOT of research. I started to notice Masserias everywhere but didn’t know how to select the best one to stay at that fit our family needs.
My best advice- made it easy to filter the options and search for what we needed as a family of 4 (like having space and breakfast included). We also consulted with a travel agent.
What surprised me most is how well this type of stay balanced both sides—elevated and family-friendly.
Here’s what stood out:
• The space — room for the kids to run, explore, and just exist
• The pace — slower, quieter, and a completely different energy than a hotel
• The food — fresh, local, and honestly one of the highlights of the stay
• The experience — it felt immersive without feeling complicated
It ended up being one of those stays where you don’t feel the need to leave… which, with kids, says a lot.
If you’re deciding where to stay in Puglia, don’t overlook a masseria—it might end up being your favorite part of the trip.
SAVE this for your Italy itinerary 🇮🇹
*How to get there: if you are an frequent flyer, they just opened up direct flights from SEA to Rome. From Rome, take a train, drive or fly to Bari (only a few hours!)
We flew from SEA to Paris on Condors new fleet (a One World Alliance) partner airline and then went from Paris to Bari, Italy to get to Puglia. I wish the Rome route had been available because that would have been more ideal and direct and ironically it launched THE DAY we landed back in Seattle 🤪
