The annual Great Blue Heron Chick Birthday Party returns to Commodore Park on June 14. Visitors can view heron chicks through spotting scopes, meet naturalists, and learn about this year’s thriving colony of 63 nests near the Ballard Locks.

The fight over Ballard light rail isn't over yet.

Following Sound Transit's vote to approve a revised plan that leaves construction funding for the Ballard segment unresolved, Seattle City Councilmember Dan Strauss is highlighting several amendments that passed, including continued funding for project design work and new requirements for Sound Transit to provide a timeline and explore ways to close the funding gap.

Meanwhile, the Save Ballard Rail group is inviting community members to a June 7 meeting to discuss the vote and next steps for advocacy efforts.

The Cascade PBS Ideas Festival is coming to Fremont on June 6, bringing a full day of conversations, live podcast and TV tapings, and appearances by nationally recognized journalists, authors, and public figures.

Programs including Radiolab, Fresh Air, The Political Scene, Radio Atlantic, and Open to Debate will record live, with speakers including Nancy Pelosi, Monica Lewinsky, Ibram X. Kendi, Laverne Cox, Kenny Mayne, and more. Read more about what's planned in Fremont.
