First, please allow me to editorialize for a second: WOOOOOOOOOOO!

That out of the way, I’m so happy to announce that is BACK, and this summer, they’re going to be serving out of my kitchen on Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays from 5p-8p.

If you’re in SLO and have somehow never heard of Ebony, first of all, lol, come on, man. What are you even doing with yourself? (There is no second of all.)

Ebony has long been one of the pioneering spots in the SLO culinary scene as both the first Ethiopian restaurant and one of the first that’s 100% vegan and gluten free. Along with , they were also one of the first to make the leap from popup to permanent, serving the most incredible food the whole time.

On top of that, Feben, Helen, and Martha are just the coolest, kindest people. When I started toying around with the idea of Salty Bagel, Feben was one of the first people I turned to for advice, and she’s given me so much guidance and support since then. Were it not for Ebony, I don’t think there would have been a Salty Bagel.

So while they build out a new space (a local cultural institution that rhymes with SLO Museum of Sharts bought the building they were previously in and kicked out all the small businesses), it’s a delicious privilege to welcome them into mine.

My kitchen is located at 153 Cross Street in SLO, which is behind Trader Joe’s. (I call it the TraJo District.) (No one else does.) They’ll be serving Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays from 5-8. (Salty Bagel will still be operating at our usual times and in our usual markets.) Please park in the street if you can, and if you can’t, don’t be k***s to our neighbors.

SEE YOU NEXT WEEK!

delivers the gf goods throughout SLO county and Santa Maria. But this month, they’re going EXTRA gluten free-y, highlighting some of their favorite local products and brands.

First up: this guy. (NB: I’m pointing at myself)

If you haven’t used Harvestly yet, then I lol in your general direction, because it is the beeeeest. They deliver for dozens of your favorite local farmer’s market vendors. They’ve got fruit and veggies, spices and snacks, bagels and swear words. (I supply the last two.) Get your order in by Wednesday and it lands on your doorstep Friday—a logistical miracle of the modern age.

And the product quality is eleventeen out of ten, too. In my case, we make everything the same day you get it. Suffice to say I very much enjoy both hours of sleep I get Thursday nights.

“But the delivery fees,” you’re thinking. “Tell us about the delivery fees. HIW MUCH ARE THE DELIVERY FEES?”

First of all, I’m leaving that typo because you look foolish when you shout like that.

Second, the delivery fee at most is $5 for your entire order, and if your order totals $50 or more (from any combination of vendors), it’s free. FREE. Jeff Bezos is spinning in his grave.

Anyway, all this month, they’ll be highlighting the best gluten-free products and brands they have on offer, including and .

So that’s Harvestly in a very large nutshell—like, the kind of overstuffed nutshell that has three or four peanuts in it. They’ve been real partners to me ever since I started Salty Bagel: encouraging when I need encouragement, happy when I’m successful, understanding when I’m late to drop stuff off, which is literally always.

I’m very grateful to them, and I’m very grateful to you, too. (Except for you, Darryl. You know what you did.)

Salty Bagel: Celiacs can bite me

If you like your gluten-free bread dry, crumbly, and tiny, keep on keepin’ on, weirdo.

This is for the rest of us.

Our new sandwich bread is here and it’s gloooorious. It’s got chew without being gummy. It’s got heft without being heavy. It makes sandwiches that won’t make you cry (unless you’re crying because you love great sandwiches)(in which case it might) [MIKE: EDIT THIS].

It also happens to be totally vegan (as well as gluten free, natch).

You’ll be able to find it soon at all my farmers market booths, albeit in limited quantities (so be sure to arrive early to prevent the shedding of sad, breadless tears of misery). We hope to have them available for local delivery via before too long as well.

Here’s the thing. Just as you do in every other facet of your life, you deserve great food that makes you happy, not something that kinda sorta resembles what you’re really after. As it says in the bible, “The road to hell is paved with Udi’s products.” [MIKE: DOUBLE CHECK THIS QUOTE]

Happy snacking, SaltBags!

TEMPLETON WE ARE IN YOU (SO TO SPEAK)!

Like the universe and my waistline, the Saltyverse is expanding. I’m very happy to report you can now find our gluten-free deliciousness Saturday mornings from 9a-12:30 at the Templeton farmers market, put on by the nice people at .

That’s in addition to our current engagements Thursdays 6p-9 at and Saturdays 2:30-5:30 . You can also get yer goodz delivered anywhere in SLO county Fridays via .

“But wait,” you’re thinking. “Aren’t you a fat, bearded man of below-average height with a janky autoimmune system? Because the person in that photo is neither fat nor bearded, and appears to be tall.”

First of all, I’m 5’9”, which is EXACTLY AVERAGE for a man in the US, so BACK OFF. I’ve been through enough. You’re correct about the rest, though.

Along those lines, I’d like you all to meet/be nice to/buy lots of stuff from Maggie, who will be running the Salty Bagel stand in Templeton. Her hobbies include art, music, and vengeance, and she’ll k*ll you three times before you even hit the floor. She’s also a fellow , so she knows what’s what.

In the meantime, trust when I say there’s more cool stuff coming down the pipeline soooooon.

See yous Saturday!

You know how you haven’t been able to find the new gluten-free Cheez Its anywhere and it’s been giving your feels the sads?

Well, I happen to know a guy (me) who happens to know a guy (also me) who’s a little obsessive, compulsive, and prone to Instacarting his way through bouts of insomnia. (I know how to party.)

Early this morning, I hit pay dirt, in the form of the aforementioned, aforecoveted gluten-free Cheez Its—and I’m giving ‘em away.

Just go to my website, saltybagelslo.com, and place a preorder for pickup tomorrow, Saturday, January 24, at the Saltyplex in SLO or the Morro Bay farmers market. (SLO pickups are from 10-1 at 153 Cross Street. The MB market runs from 2:30-5 at the intersection of Main Street and Morro Bay Blvd.)

Order as much or as little as you’d like—we’ll pick a winner at random at 10a. You’ll be able to pick up your winnings with your order. (If you win.)

We’ll also have a small number of our locally world-famous Cheez It + Cheddar bagels available for sale at the market. Hooray!

See you tomorrow maybe!

Am I having a particularly good baking day? Yes.

Should you come see me this afternoon at ? Also yes.

Does “particularly good baking day” imply the existence of particularly bad baking days? Psssh.
