Moving the business to Watsonville has not been without its challenges. Sometimes I feel like you can solve one problem but create another, but I know think that’s the tough part of working in agriculture, especially in California. A lot of the bigger farms we used to buy from are all closed now, they couldn’t afford the infrastructure cost of operating in California any more; labor costs, property taxes, water cost, energy costs. I’m sure you can just imagine 😂 Farming is struggling a lot due to the regulations that exist and the costs that exist with no subsidies, and then how easy and cheap it is to import flowers that don’t have these restrictions. I know the same is true across all industries. But this week I found myself down a long dirt road, at a tiny flower farm we never knew existed, and we’re reminded of why we made the move.

One of the biggest blessings has been discovering these small, magical places. They’re family-run farms, tucked away off the beaten track, growing beautiful flowers in very small quantities. This magical little farm had such wonderful hanging Amaranthus, it almost looks like it dances through the arrangement it is so fun.

What feels great is the chance to build the industry back with these growers. By committing in advance to buy their flowers, we can help give these growers a little more certainty as they plan their next planting. They know there’s a home for their flowers, and we get to bring something lovely to yours. That’s something your Bloombox makes possible. We’re still finding our feet, and there are certainly days when it all feels rather a lot. But getting to know these growers and seeing what we can do together has been such a lovely part of this new chapter.🤍

The dance of the ranunculus in the glow of a fall night. Fall is on its way to us, and I can’t wait. The ambers, golds, and bronze tones are in their prime, the liquid amber is in full swing, the lisianthus is singing, only for a short moment. 99 days until Christmas dare I even say it! 🍂🍁💛
