TLDR: my text to Rootpile(Marcus)

Thanks again for considering me to help out with Rootpile kitchen on the Playa this year!

A little about my culinary work:

◦ Badass under pressure (burning man is like a video game meets a Hurricane. I survived charley in ‘04, but my restaurant didn’t. So I started a few more.)
◦ Creative mind and procedural soul (read: lives to eat; feeds for love; loves lists — on paper, not computer)
◦ Loves leading and hates dictating (read: jose Andreas not Gordon Ramsay)
◦ Works best alone & appreciates doers who can teach me how to be a better human. (Read: I can make & have made food for 150 regularly & it’s a challenge to show and tell others how to do the same…it takes too long)
◦ I know how to cook!! (Read: not trained professionally, trained by some of the grittiest chefs/cooks you’ll ever meet, including Tyler Florence & John Whitmire)
◦ I don’t sharpen my own knives (but I’d gladly do it if taught on a whetstone) I don’t clean fryers. (‘cause I love fried food and hate what I’ve seen coming out of the grease bins…30 years ago I swore I’d never eat fried food again if I had to clean another fryer. I love fried food & I’ve stuck by my word!)
◦ I don’t need anything but smiles on faces. (Read: ticket secured, self sufficient, including solar. I don’t need a camp or a shower or water or food — but I’d love a shower before the truck stop when I leave BM)
◦ I’m afraid of failure. (read: I like perfection)
◦ I was interested in your camp before I saw the chef’s position. It’s because I LOVE live music. (Read: I want to contribute to burning man this year, because I’m tired of cooking awesome food for only myself and my friends and randos biking by or camps across the street. (Read: my plan is to try and find a spot near green circuit of playa to camp solo (4:30/F-Gish…and would love to work 2 shifts for Rootpile: W&Th dinner? 3-6?)
◦ Let me know if this jives with your needs. My husband is a doer and burning man hasn’t& won’t break us. PS - he’s a doer too & I’d likely get a helpful visit from him while/if I’m cheffing.

I’m available by phone now or tomorrow 10-1PT. After that, I’ll be entertaining out of cell range

Thinking of my Florida friends and family as Ian approaches.

This evening, cook your fresh meats and veggies into soups or stews and freeze them. They will make healthy easy meals when the power is out.

Waffles and Mochi on Netflix = San Francisco Soup Lady approved!

Though their audience is surely targeted to very young kids, as a chef and new grandma, I took an interest & watched the first couple episodes last night. The show is like Mr. Rogers meets Anthony Bourdain, but with a global perspective and city vibe. So cute!

Michelle & Barack Obama are the executive producers and “Mrs. O” is in the show. Great work featuring so many local chefs & “traveling”/highlighting parts of the world where food & culture is homegrown.

Have you or your young kids seen it?

Waffles and Mochi embark on a global food expedition in order to become chefs. With the help of Mrs. Obama, Waffles and Mochi travel the world, learning all ...
