Today, I get to share a cake that means a little more to me than others.
I recently became a Sugar Angel with Icing Smiles, Inc., a nationwide, nonprofit organization that brings the joy of custom cakes to children facing critical illness. Icing Smiles' Sugar Angels are volunteer bakers who donate their time, talent, and resources to create a special cake for a child during an incredibly difficult chapter of their lives.
And then came my very first assignment…I was selected to create Ms. Hailey’s requested "Japanese tea garden/cherry blossoms" birthday cake.
As cake artists, we often talk about the joy our cakes bring, but this experience reminded me that sometimes a cake can mean so much more.
It can create a happy, lifelong memory.
It can bring a smile during a difficult time.
And, if even for just a few moments, it can simply be about being a kid and celebrating your special day.
I am incredibly honored to now be part of the Icing Smiles family and to have the opportunity to use something I love doing to give back in such a meaningful way.
