Here’s a little behind-the-scenes look at what it really takes to bring your cake vision to life 🎂
📝 Planning & Design
Every custom cake starts with emails, messages, inspiration photos, convos regarding sizing, flavors, colors, themes, and sometimes sketches. This step ensures your cake fits your vision and can take quite a bit of time to make sure your cake is just right before I can move in to invoicing.
🛒 Ingredients & Supplies
I use high-quality ingredients like real butter, fresh eggs, premium extracts, gourmet chocolate, and fillings—plus cake boards, boxes, dowels, toppers, food gel coloring, and decorating tools. For example, did you know that the box and board (called a cake drum) for a 10" cake costs around $18 alone?
🍰 From-Scratch Baking
Your cake is baked fresh, from scratch—usually in multiple layers. This includes measuring, mixing, baking, cooling, leveling, and prepping each layer to ensure the best taste and structure. The next step is making my signature buttercream, which takes 2 hours, start to finish!
🎨 Decorating & Assembly
This is the most time-intensive part! Crumb coating, chilling, final frosting, stacking, hand-piping, sculpting, and adding custom details normally takes hours to complete.
🕒 Time, Skill & Experience
A Honeybee’s custom cake is not a quick or mass-produced item, and my cakes are never frozen. Most cakes require many hours across several days, along with years of experience, specialty tools, and professional techniques.
📦 Finishing & Care
Final inspections, secure packaging, and transport preparation all ensure your cake leaves Honeybee’s kitchen safe, beautiful, and celebration-ready.
