Where Fellow Celiac Children Can Meet
Camp Copneconic is offering a "Beyond Gluten" week, August 13-18.
Where is the camp held? At YMCA Camp Copneconic in Fenton, MI. Fenton is off US 23, between Flint and Ann Arbor
What age is this camp for? For children ENTERING grades 4-11.
Are campers in cabins with only GF kids?
The sooner campers register, the more likely gluten free kids will be in dedicated cabins.
Who prepares meals for GF campers- Camp Copneconic staff prepare all meals.
How much is the camp? $700
IMPORTANT !!!! When registering, do so for the typical Session 4 week, and then add “Gluten Free” in the Cabinmate Request spot. This is how gluten free campers can be organized into their own cabins.
To have GF kids in dedicated cabins, we need to have at least 20 campers. The sooner families register, the better.

They Don't Know If We Don't Speak Up
Over the years, I've had a few people contact me that they think a restaurant made a mistake and fed them something that contained gluten.
And I've been the go between between the customer and the restaurant.
And some times it results in the restaurant making sure to retrain staff or update policies. Which is the best possible outcome.
But here's the thing. They don't know this if we never speak up.
While we can leave comments on FB and Find ME Gluten Free, it never leads to change unless we talk to the owners / managers.
Also, remember that if you feel unwell, it may not always be gluten. Case in point.
Last fall I ate at a restaurant that was advertised as 100% gluten free. I ate there, and felt HORRIBLE afterwards. So I reached out to the business over email.
I talked thru with the owner everything I ate.
And that's when I realized that the smoothie I drank contained stevia and erythritol. Both of which make me feel INCREDIBLY ill.
I have a blog post that covers 5 things you should do, if you feel (or know for a fact) that a restaurant fed you something that wasn't gluten free. I wrote this many years ago, after accidentally being served a burrito with a wheat based wrap. What I share in this post is exactly what I did, after that incident.

If It's Made From Wheat, Do Not Eat
Someone on Instagram last week was trying to tell their followers that wheat based sourdough "may be" safe for those on a gluten free diet.
Unfortunately, that's not what repeated testing has shown.
Gluten Free Watchdog, LLC tested 3 wheat based sourdough products.
Here are the results-
Dan the Baker Sourdough - 104,000 ppm of gluten
Purbread "Neutralized Gluten" Bread - greater than 283 ppm of gluten
Leaven Breads 100% Sourdough - greater than 283 ppm of gluten

Interestingly, only about 20% of people with DH have the intestinal symptoms of celiac disease. Many people who had DH as their primary symptom were diagnosed with celiac disease by their dermatologist (and then hopefully referred to a gastroenterologist for follow-up care).

We have a limited amount of these adorable confections, so make sure to grab some for Easter baskets, cookie exchanges, or for a cute Easter photo op, as Lindsey is demonstrating below!
Our NEW Lemon and Raspberry Bars has a base that is sort of a cross between our Sugar Cookie and Pie Crust. Paired with a Fruit topping, these are sure to be a favorite! Both are DF, and the Raspberry is also Soy Free

We will be open on Monday, Nov 19 from 10 am - 6pm to give you more chance to stock up for Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving hours are as follows: Mon-Tue 11/19 - 11/20: 10 AM - 6 PM Wed 11/21: 10 AM - 3 PM Thur - Mon 11/22 - 11/26: CLOSED. Happy Thanksgiving! Tues 11/27: Resume Normal Hours SHIP OUT CUSTOMERS: Please have your orders in by Tuesday, Nov 13 by 6pm to ensure delivery by Thanksgiving. Any orders after that, we will do our best to get your orders out to you so that you can have your items in time. However, please take into consideration how far away from Michigan you are, to allow for shipping. And, the closer you come to the holiday, the more likely the chance that we may have run out of our items. Due to the overwhelming amount of cake orders coming in, our White Bread schedule may be off for a few weeks. So please call, text, or check Facebook to see when we will have it fresh, and to make sure we have some in stock. Have you tried any of our Coffee Cakes yet? They are the quiet favourite dessert here at the bakery. They all are also Dairy Free, and all but the Lemon are also Soy free! We introduced our Cinnamon Coffee Cake a few months ago, and it is becoming the fast best seller. For those of you who cannot indulge in our Cinnamon Rolls because of the Dairy, our Cinnamon Coffee Cake is a great way to curb those cravings. Please put in your cake orders as soon as you can. If we have any available after Fat Tuesday, I will put them back online. We are still working on getting all orders out. We thank you for your patience. What restaurants in the Canton/Wayne County-ish area have separate fryers and GF and DF menu items in safe environments? I know of Mr. Mikes, Anna's House, and Rumi's bakery. I also know of Renee's Pizza. Please help me expand my options. If you know these places, you know I have high standards for "real" good tasting splurges, not just the every-day crappy GF pizza from Dominos or Buddies. Thx.
