How is she ELEVEN?! 🥹
For eleven years, our oldest daughter has been one of our favorite reasons to make a cake—and, whether she realized it or not, one of our very first creative guinea pigs. 😂
We’ve always used our kids’ birthday cakes as a chance to try something new.
A new decorating technique.
A design we weren’t quite sure we could pull off yet.
A different way of working with buttercream.
A flavor combination we wanted to test.
Sometimes… an idea that taught us exactly what not to do next time. 😅
But there has always been one rule: the cake still has to be theirs.
Because these aren’t practice cakes. They’re birthday cakes.
They’ve reflected the things she loved, the characters she adored, the colors she chose, and the little pieces of her personality at each age. And looking back through them now, we don’t just see how much our decorating has changed—we see her growing up.
Some of these cakes taught us techniques we still use today. Some pushed us completely outside our comfort zone. Some make us laugh a little when we look back at them. And some are still favorites all these years later.
Our kids have given us such a wonderful place to experiment creatively because they believe we can make just about anything they dream up. And somehow, those experiments have helped shape the cakes we make for all of you now.
So here’s eleven years of birthday cakes, lessons learned, ideas tested, personalities captured, and one little girl who is suddenly not so little anymore.
Happy 11th birthday to our girl. 🤍
We’re still trying to figure out how THAT happened. . . . .
