I had the honour of making cookies to celebrate the release of Lizzie Buehler debut novel, The Obsessed! We decided to go with a cookie that tied back to the design elements in the book cover, but did not replicate it exactly. I personally love how these came out 🥰

There's also a very sweet backstory to this order! Obviously, these are for a 1st birthday party for sweet Asher! Right before Asher was born, I actually made cookies for his mom's baby shower 🥹 I can't wait to see what designs he asks for on his 2nd birthday! 🎉🥳

I was given a lot of creative freedom on this order, which simultaneously excites and terrifies me. I was given the phrases that they wanted to include and the design aesthetic that they wanted to stick to: classy, timeless, clean, neutral colours, and metallics 🤍

I decided to stick to a very limited colour palette of black, white, and gold. I also decided on 2 fonts to use that I thought complemented each other. Finally, I decided on 6 unique cookie shapes that looked visually cohesive next to each other. I sketched the designs in bed, half asleep, undoing and redoing it a million times 😵‍💫

I meant to make this post OVER A YEAR AGO and it just never happened but I'm going to do it now because this design deserves a big, permanent position on the feed ✨

In this age of AI, a lot of people are asking why graphic designers are still necessary. I'll tell you why. Because if you scroll to slide 5 of this photo dump, you will see my horrifying attempt at a mockup for my first merch drop. I sent shanice this embarrassingly bad sketch, a Pinterest vision board, and a Venmo payment, and that was it. Within 48 hours she sent me the fully completed designs you see now.

I don't care what AI can do because I have seen what humans can do and I am far more impressed by the latter. Shanice blew me away with this artwork. It is one of my favourite things in the world. I plan on printing a poster of it to hang in my home. Hiring an artist to bring this vision to life was EASILY one of the best investments I have ever made. I'll be loving this design forever and I will always support human art ❤️❤️❤️
