📣 A Little Reminder About Small Businesses
I want to share something because I think it’s important for both customers and small business owners.
Sometimes life happens. As a small business owner, I am also a mom, a person, and a human being. I can get sick, have emergencies, and unfortunately there are times when I simply cannot fulfill an order—even when I really want to.
Recently, I had to cancel an order because I was very sick and physically unable to bake. I completely understand being disappointed when an order doesn’t work out, and I absolutely understand a customer choosing to take their business elsewhere.
What I don’t think is fair is assuming that because you see someone active on Facebook, they must be well enough to work.
Being on social media does not mean I am physically capable of standing in a kitchen for hours, preparing food, decorating a cake, and guaranteeing that the food is safe for someone to eat. In fact, when I’m sick, choosing NOT to prepare food for customers is the responsible thing to do.
And yes, I may still scroll Facebook, respond to messages, post something, or simply distract myself while I’m stuck at home sick. That does not mean I am suddenly healthy enough to work.
I will always choose the health and safety of my customers over completing an order when I am sick. ❤️
Small businesses are run by real people. Please give us the same grace and understanding that you would hope to receive if you were in our position.
Please don’t be like this. Choose kindness, communicate directly, and remember there is a human being on the other side of the business page. ❤️
