If you saw the story yesterday, then you know I was forced to do something with the bananas, and that I accidentally smashed an egg on the counter.⠀

I also managed to lose my round cake pans during one of our moves. So, my dream of a beautiful banana spice layer cake was smashed more quickly than that egg. ⠀
⠀
Here, we have a banana cake with maple-cinnamon icing. It’s kind of like if banana bread and French toast had a cake baby. It’s oddly satisfying.

We tested out some homemade rainbow chips🌈 They aren’t pretty (yet) but they are DELICIOUS. If we ever have a signature frosting, this might be it.

Last year, NYE was spent in Toronto with champagne and fireworks. We found this great restaurant where I discovered ‘halva spread.’ ⠀
NYE is looking a little different this year. I played around with some flavor combinations and made halva buttercream between some buttery shortbread cookies. ⠀
May the new year bring you good health and happiness and may it be sweeter than the last (and sweeter than this halva buttercream).

The most important lesson I learned while baking for the holidays— seasonal items are “out of season” before the season has ended. ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀. The ‘new and improved’ Holiday S’mores cookie sandwich is stuffed with a marshmallow buttercream and tastes exactly like Christmas.
