Just a little behind-the-scenes bakery story for your day. 😂🐓

I was in the middle of making scones when I realized I needed more eggs, so I headed out to the coop.

Well, one of my lovely ladies decided she was going to lay an egg… from the TOP roosting bar.

Now, we all know what happens when an egg meets the ground, and I’ll be damned if I’m wasting a perfectly good fresh egg.

So what did I do?

I CAUGHT IT. MID-LAY. 😭😂

Walked my happy self back inside, washed it off, cracked it straight into the soon-to-be scone dough, and carried on with my day.

You really can’t get much fresher than that.

Farm-to-table? No, honey. We’re doing chicken-to-batter express delivery around here. 🐔🥚

Running dangerously low on flour (after making 56 loaves) 😅

And watching my starter rise WAY too close to the lid like it’s plotting an escape. 😂 Nothing gets my heart going more than thinking about the mess that I might have to clean up.

Forget deadlines. Forget big orders. THIS is panic.

Of course! POWER IS OUT 😭🤦‍♀️. I have close to 40 loaves fermenting, needing to go into the fridge tonight. Do I have a generac? Yes. Is it connected to the same breaker where my fridges are? NOPE.
