REAL TALK
Let’s have a real conversation about GLP-1s.
I’ve been thinking about how many people feel like they have to keep it a secret that they’re taking a GLP-1. You body tells the story—muscle loss!!
And I honestly wonder… why?
We openly talk about medication for blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, and other health conditions. But when it comes to weight, suddenly there’s shame, secrecy, judgment, and people feeling like they have to explain themselves.
And those of us who have had weight-loss surgery need to be honest about this too.
Many of us know what it feels like to be judged for how we chose to lose weight. People questioned our decisions, made assumptions, or had plenty to say about our journey.
So why would we turn around and judge someone else for choosing a different tool?
A GLP-1 is a tool. Weight-loss surgery is a tool. Nutrition is a tool. Exercise is a tool. Therapy is a tool. Coaching is a tool. None of these should replace the work. Because true health is about caring for the whole temple—mind, body, and spirit.
We still have to learn how to eat better.
We still have to move our bodies.
We still have to work on our mindset.
We still have to address our relationship with food.
We still have to take responsibility for the choices we make every day.
Because if we don’t learn how to nourish our bodies and move our bodies, we may not experience the long-term success of living a healthy life—regardless of what tool we use to get started.
And there is a huge psychological component to this conversation. Weight isn’t just about food. It’s connected to emotions, habits, trauma, stress, self-esteem, body image, food noise, and the way we’ve learned to cope.
So instead of asking, “Are you really taking that?” or “You didn’t do it naturally?” Maybe we should ask:
“Are you healthier?”
“Are you learning?”
“Are you doing the work?”
“Are you taking better care of yourself?”
Nobody owes us their medical history. Privacy is a choice. But shame shouldn’t have to be part of someone’s health journey. We don’t have to agree with every choice someone makes. We don’t have to choose the same path. But we can choose GRACE over judgment. Because at the end of the day, this isn’t about who lost weight the “right” way. It’s about caring for the temple God gave us—mind, body, and spirit—and doing our part to live a healthier, stronger, more purposeful life.
Let’s stop judging the tool and start supporting the transformation.
