I Loved being hands on in the kitchen with my mother, grandmom and auntie. But grandmom had me under her wing as she baked and cooked all the time. ving ingredients for her Famous Sweet Potato Pies. Grandmom never used a measuring cup. As we baked the pies, we filled the house with such a lovely smell that carouseled thru out the house. When they were done and slightly cooled, we took a bite, after bite and after bite. Each bite you tasted the Love that was put into making it. My aunt is known for her Apple Pies. Her crust is always flaky and buttery. I also assisted her with preparing the crust and of course with the pie filling. She taught me to be delicate and not rough with the crust. Treat the crust with the Love of a little baby. When her pies would come out the oven, we could not help our mouths from dripping with anticipation of the delightful taste waiting to take place in our belly. Being in the kitchen with my mom was a real treat for me because she worked so much. We would make cookies and muffins. My Mom’s Oatmeal Raisin Cookies are The Best. When we would make them they never lasted more than a couple of hours. As every cookie tray came out the oven a couple of hands would come take them before they were completely cooled. All we would hear was Hmm Hmm Hmm Good!!!! Every mouth in the house smacking and enjoying every tantalizing spice that would touch our taste buds. My Love for cooking and baking is truly full of life lessons. My Love of decorating came about when my mom used to make us her beautiful butterfly cake for our birthdays. Then it increased as a teenager and one of my best friends made cakes like the Cake Boss does now. She was creating her masterpieces in her own house. She would take me everywhere with her for cake boxes, pans and other decorative supplies. I never could imagine that 12 years later I would start my own cake business. The idea to start my cake business came from another one of my friends that knew I Love baking. She really helped me get the ball rolling. In 2001 I started Wakeena’s Edible Creations. Within the last 13 years my cakes have been in 5 restaurants, 3 street vendors and thousands of homes from the Tri- State to down South. My goal is to leave everyone with A Lot of Love in every bite of my Edible Delights.
