This morning, I was out watering my garden and picking strawberries, and I was asking God what He wanted to talk to me about today.
And He said, your perspective.
At first, I thought He was talking about how I look at things like obstacles, because I can say this is a season of testing and growing. There have been a lot of obstacles.
But He said, no, “the fruitfulness”.
Let me be honest, this season hasn’t felt fruitful. It has felt as though I’m staying afloat, walking and doing everything I should, but there’s no fruit.
But God said, “look at how you’re looking at these strawberries”.
I wasn’t just standing in one place. I was moving, shifting, looking from different angles. Moving the leaves around.
He said, “You’re shifting your perspective.”
There’s fruit I can’t see beneath the leaves. That’s fruit I would’ve missed had I not walked around the plant and fully inspected it.
I could feel God telling me to inspect myself. Not just look at one area, but look at the whole picture. For me, not just my parenting and home, but everything my hand touches.
When I did that, I could see the fruit. I could see God’s hand.
I could hear His gentle whisper, “My daughter, you are fruitful stop being so hard on yourself.”
Sometimes there will be big fruit, and sometimes there will be little fruit. Just like with these strawberries, sometimes there are very tiny ones and sometimes there are very large ones.
But to my Father, whether it’s big fruit or small fruit, it is fruit. It is life that’s been made.
Sometimes maybe the fruit isn’t ready yet, and it’s growth I need to be looking at.
I feel like in this day and age we get stuck in comparison, but that is not what God wants us to be doing. He wants us to turn and examine ourselves. He wants us to see what He’s doing in our lives, because just as He tells us in Isaiah 43:19:
“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
Let me ask you a question,
Do you not perceive it? Do you not see your growth and fruit?
Maybe you don’t right now, but stop looking outward and look inward. Examine yourself, and you will.
Father, I see You making a way in my wilderness and streams in these wastelands. I see Your faithfulness. Father, fill me with joy when the burdens are heavy, because it’s just You making a way.
Amen.
