Exposure to SCRAMBLED EGG for Augustine last Friday. That was not on my bingo card for this school year.
I circle what I want him to eat on the school menu. They have all the clarifications from CHOP and his P*P. And yet, we’re still here.
Amidst the reaction, two things I get asked or told are…
“Did he even eat it?”
And…
“This is baked egg.”
Let’s clear something up. Just because you put an egg in the oven doesn’t automatically make it baked egg. This is frozen scrambled egg that gets reheated in the oven. That is NOT the same thing.
This is exactly why the details, the paperwork, the clarifications, and the accommodations matter. Food allergies are not something we can just shrug off and hope for the best. My baby boy could have died. Thankful he just needed his inhaler Q4 & Zyrtec but we know food allergies are life threatening.
I am exhausted from having to explain, advocate, and double-check things that I have already gone over with the people responsible for keeping my child safe.
He deserves to feel safe everywhere.
