We had a great time at the GDGBA show in Jefferson on Saturday. It was an extremely well run show in a wonderful facility. The show ran so smoothly and quickly that I couldn’t write down placements between classes, and I can’t remember a lot of them😆I hope I’ve accurately remembered what I’m posting.

This was a fun show, and it was wonderful to visit with friends. It would have been an impossible day without my goat showing partner, Jason❤️

Fides was junior LaMancha reserve champion in ring 1. I can’t remember her placement in ring 2

Lirit was 2nd 2yo milker in ring 1, and 3rd in ring two.

Edda was 2nd 4yo milker and 1st udder in ring 1, and 3rd in ring 2.

Edda and Lirit were sixth place dam and daughter with all breeds competing together.

Lirit was part of a fourth place get of sire class with a couple of Whimsy Oak LaManchas does.

Our youngest juniors, Paloma and Penelope, placed well in a large class of under 6 month LaManchas. (I can’t remember their placements at the moment.)

The absolute highlight of my day wasn’t in my herd. Huge congratulations goes out to Jessica Stoker Weeks and her doe, Ariel! Ariel cleaned up this weekend with multiple wins, earning a champion leg.

We had the privilege to participate in LA today, and we are very pleased with the direction our little herd is going. It’s always good to hear an outside opinion on the goats we love.

Our appraiser, Cullen Owen, did a great job with explaining the changes to the program and his scoring on individual animals. Our host, Damon Cullens, had a great setup despite the cold, nasty, rainy weather we had today.

Pictures of the ladies will be coming soon😊

Our first milk test of the year is (finally) in the books. We’re very pleased with the girls’ production. At ten weeks fresh,
Promise 10.0# (7F)
Edda 11.8# (2F)
Lirit 12.2# (FF)

Pictured is Lirit’s udder. This chill, quirky 2yo FF is a farm favorite, and she is quickly proving to be the kind of doe we have been working toward for years. We’re super excited about her yearling paternal half sister and her full sister we are retaining this year.

It was a beautiful day for the does and kids to take their first goat walk together❤️💗

We’re really enjoying the new adventure of combo dam/bottle raising these kids. Their personalities are really shining through.

Now to decide which doelings to keep and which to sell😬

Although Edda became very sick with pneumonia less than 24 hours after her quads were born, she responded well to treatment and her kids are thriving. I can’t say thank you enough to Sandra Woulfe, Brown Veterinary Services, and Whimsy Oak LaManchas for all your help that night!

Edda is back to her sweet, cuddly, curious self, and the quads have all doubled their birth weights in two weeks.

Penelope, Pilcrow, Paddy, and Pippa are given an all-they-can-drink supplemental bottle each evening. Edda provides what they need otherwise, so we keep her well fed with quality alfalfa and rye out 24/7, as well as her grain twice daily.

I’m looking forward to our first milk test for this girl!

Lirit kidded buck/doe twins yesterday, sneaking them in between checks☺️

Lirit is a homegrown doe, and these are our first kids by our junior herdsire, Jack. We’re excited to watch them unfold.

The black doeling is being retained, and the cream buckling is available. The planned pedigree is included in the pictures.

Edda kicked off kidding season for us last night with quads! 3 doelings and 1 buckling joined the herd.

We decided to combination dam/bottle raise this year’s kid crop since it fits our lifestyle best right now.

At least one doeling and the buckling are available. This is a repeat breeding from two years ago, so we have full siblings here on the farm for reference. The planned pedigree is included in the pictures. Please PM me for details on available kids.

Most importantly, we are thankful for a healthy doe and kids❤️

Thank you, Emmy. Thank you for countless gallons of milk for our family, for your patience as Jason and I clumsily learned to milk, for grudgingly letting every one of our children learn to milk on you, for all the wonderful kids you gave us (most of which you sneaked between hourly checks) your line makes up half of our little herd, for being my unwitting therapist many times, for the introduction to the wonderful world of LaManchas and all the friends I met through you, for your quirky idiosyncrasies that always brought a smile to my face-a love of helicoptering like no goat I’ve ever seen and your absolute contentment basking in the sun, just to name a couple, for being my heart goat, and for all the wonderful memories. I don’t know how long I’ll look for you in the pasture or barn or milkroom, but I’ll find you in Edda and Lirit and Iliad, and hopefully many generations to come. Thank you for being so much more than just a goat. I will miss you, my friend.

The Georgia National Fair 2021 ADGA show is in the books! I had such a great time visiting with friends, and our girls made me proud.

Promise was 3rd
Fides and Tillie were 4th and 6th
Lirit was 2nd in her class, then Reserve Grand Champion junior LaMancha

There were so many beautiful does there, and my friends also did very well.

Congratulations to Kristin Hammock, Sandra Woulfe, and Jessica Stoker Weeks for your wins! Your ladies are lovely!

Henning made a whirlwind move to Whimsy Oak LaManchas, his south Georgia home, yesterday, and this time he’ll stay there. His amazing genetics have been used as much as possible in our tiny herd. We will miss the big, gentle guy and his antics while ruling the buck pen. We are so thankful to have been trusted with him and the potential he left behind in his daughters and son in our herd❤️

What a day! I’m both floored and very very grateful! A huge thanks to everyone who helped us both at the show and back at home. This is definitely not something one can do well alone! Also a big thanks to GDGBA and everyone involved for putting on a great show at a really awesome facility. And to Sweet Song Farm for trusting me with Ariel as a doeling six years ago! I can’t remember everyone’s placings at this time so I’ll just post the most notable ones. ⭐️Ring 1 - Bob Bartholomew 🔵Ariel: 1st place aged doe, 1st udder Grand Champion Best of Breed Best Udder of Breed 3rd place out of 11 Dam & Daughter with Epiphany (all breeds together) 🔵Epiphany: 1st place 4 year old (would have been 1st udder if not a little over uddered - eating premium perennial peanut and rye all night really made some milk in a 13 hour fill!!😬) Reserve Champion ⭐️Ring 2 - Jeff Klein (ADGA District III LaMancha Specialty) 🔵Ariel: 1st place aged doe, 1st udder Reserve Champion (to a finished doe, so hopefully a restricted leg!) Best Udder of Breed 🔵Bombshell: 1st place 2 year old, 1st udder
After crazy last minute plans (a huge thanks to Sweet Song Farm for working with us!), Henning has arrived from his other home and breeding season has officially begun! He clearly has a fan club here.
It’s been nearly surreal to actually have an LA session this year after what has felt like so long and with so much in limbo this past year! We’re very proud of the progress our herd is making and the best compliment of all we received today from the appraiser was that our herd is very consistent and that it’s clear what type of LaMancha we are breeding for. ❤️ So without further ado, our scores are listed below! Sweet Song CP Under the Sea (5F) VEVE 89 @5-02 Whimsy Oak AA Epiphany (2F) VEVE 89 @3-02 Whimsy Oak LHA Avaris (FF) +EVV 88 @2-01 Whimsy Oak CB Jasmine (FF) VEVV 87 @2-01 Sweet Song PT Lilybet (2F) +VVV 86 @3-02 Whimsy Oak AA Esmeralda (3F) V++E 86 @3-02 Whimsy Oak CE JuneBug (FF) +++V 85 @1-11 Whimsy Oak JME Eureka (FF) +VV+ 84 @1-04 Lucky*Star’s RJ Lights-Up VEV 87 @2-00 and Lucky*Star’s ME Henning EEE 91 @5-03!!! (Co-own with Lori of Sweet Song Farm - many thanks to her for doing most of his management and care these past couple of years that we’ve owned him!) Henning had daughters do extremely well also in addition to our 88 FF daughter, but I’ll let Hammock Haven Farm post about them! Now to get home so everyone can rest, including ourselves! A huge thanks to our appraiser, to Kristin for hosting, and to my dad for going with me as due to some vehicle issues today it’s highly unlikely I’d have made it without him!
So grateful to co-own Johansen’s full brother, Henning with Sweet Song Farm and even more excited with plans to use him heavily this fall. Best of all, Johansen and her EX-94 dam Vivian both have lactations over 3500 lbs! Long-lived, sound, productive does are what we’re after! (Psst... he still has semen available through Blue Mountain Genetics!)
The ELITE list is out and we are happy to announce that SG +*B Lucky*Star’s ME Henning made the list for the fourth time! We are thankful to have been able to purchase him in 2019 along with Sweet Song Farm and that so many of his daughters already had data. His sire SG Mint*Leaf Elmsley, grandsire SG Little Orchard BR Pure Thrill, full sister SG Lucky*Star’s ME Johansen, and a few paternal sisters also made the list as well as several maternal brothers. And, his daughter SG Livin My Dream HE Miss Maribel made 99th percentile plus a granddaughter at 97th percentile!! (Just a reminder, Henning was collected again this year and straws can be purchased through Blue Mountain Genetics!) Other animals related to our herd making the list were Light-Up’s sire Rockin-CB KWY Jiangxi, his full sister Lucky*Star’s RJ Kacey, and littermate sister Lucky*Star’s RJ Leading Lady (a first freshener). A few paternal sisters made the list as well. Our own doe, Sweet Song PT Lilybet, did not quite made the list, but we are still very proud of her making 89th percentile and being such a persistent milker in her first freshening! She easily qualified for her milk star in all three categories and that should be official soon!
SG +*B Lucky*Star’s ME Henning (pictured last year as a 3 year old) made the ELITE list again, this time as a 4 year old and in the 96th percentile! He has had multiple offspring earn the Superior Genetics designation (FIVE daughters so far!) and to make the ELITE and Young Sire list, and his daughters show well too. Most recently, at Carrollton in the HUGE intermediate kid class (25-30 shown), his two daughters bred and owned by our dear friends and his co-owners Sweet Song Farm made the cut in both rings and placed 2nd and 3rd over some tough competition! He has done so well already for other farms in our region including Hammock Haven and Livin My Dream Farm, and we are grateful to be using these genetics in our own herd! We will have daughters of our own freshening in 2021 and we will of course be using him again this fall! Henning is also available to driveway breed clean, tested does with disease screening results in hand. https://www.adgagenetics.org/GoatDetail.aspx?RegNumber=L001768448
