Hi there, my friends. It has been a long while, hasn't it?

I have some news coming in a few days that will hopefully make some of you happy and, in the meantime, I would like to talk to you about Cleveland Family Meal.

Cleveland Family Meal started at the beginning of the covid shut-down when a group of local chefs put their heads together and created a program to help get meals and provisions into the hands of service industry workers who were instantly without jobs and income. There was a great need for help and Cleveland Family Meal was born.

Over the last several months, Cleveland Family Meal has been distributing fresh produce, groceries, prepared meals and provisions like diapers, soap and shampoo via a weekly market at the restaurant Salt in Lakewood. While their initial intention was to provide assistance to those in the service industry, they quickly opened the market to anyone in the community who needed help. Cleveland Family Meal has been a lifeline to thousands of folks who have been hit hard by the effects of this pandemic. Every week they work with love and dedication to serve the community.

Won't you take a moment to have a look at their webpage, clock on the "Donate" link and make a contribution to their program? Many hands make light work. Whatever amount you're able to give will go a long way to help Cleveland Family Meal continue to support those who need a little help right now and I would consider it a personal favor.

Be well. Take care of each other and I will talk to you again soon.

Hello to my Humble Pie Baking Company friends. I hope that you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

I would like to share with you a project that I've been working on the past several months. It all started when a good friend made the difficult decision to close his business and from there it turned into starting a Kickstarter campaign to help him open in a new location. I won't go into all the details here because the video in the campaign does a wonderful job telling the story.

If you would take a few minutes to check out the Kickstarter campaign, watch the video and, if like me, you are moved by my friend's story, consider making a contribution I would be so thankful. It would also be wonderful if you would share this campaign with your family and friends.

I believe in crowdfunding, that many hands make light work. I believe in the generosity and kindness of my friends and I believe in my friend Ehab.

Please take a look-

Hi there, friends.

As many of you know, though I'm still making pies, I've scaled back on my Humble Pie Baking Company business. Life the past year has been full of many wonderful adventures but has also included challenges for some of my loved ones.

It was a big and difficult decision and it took a long time to make but I have decided not to bake this Thanksgiving.

Physically I cannot make the number of pies I've made for Thanksgiving the last several years. While I truly loved doing it, the excitement, the planning, the hard work, craziness and making people happy, each year the recuperation was harder and longer.

I considered limiting the number of orders this year but ultimately decided that after eight years of Thanksgiving pie making, I would like to have a year to enjoy the holiday like a normal, non-pie making person.

To the few of you who have already placed orders who I've not been able to get in touch with, I wanted to wait to post this until I talked with you but time was running out.

I am full of gratitude for the love and support I've received since I started this business. The great appreciation from all of you for the pies I make has been tremendously rewarding.

I don't know what next Thanksgiving will hold for Humble Pie but for now I am happy taking weekly orders from you all and doing my wholesale work. I will take orders for Christmas this year so if you are still hankering after your Turkey Day meal, I've got you covered.

May each and every one of you have a Thanksgiving filled with love and peace, good friends and family and a bountiful holiday table.

Cheers!

I am really, really excited about what we have in the works at RIsing Star for the new pastry program. I have been a HUGE fan of Rising Star from their beginning because of their commitment to responsible sourcing, making the best coffee possible and equally as importantly because of their commitment to their staff. I can't imagine another company I would rather be part of.

Friends,

It’s time for me to tell you all about a big decision: I’ve decided not to open a Humble Pie Baking Company shop at this time.

Two years ago when I started thinking that I *might* want to open a shop, I set out to look at different Cleveland neighborhoods for ideas of where to open if I decided to do so. At the very beginning of that process, the opportunity to purchase the Lorain Fulton Bakery building fell into my lap and my husband Steve and I decided to purchase the building.

The following year involved a lot of changes in our personal lives that distracted us from the initial plans for renovating the building and opening a bakery. As the second year started to go by, I began questioning whether I really wanted to open a shop.

This past summer, I opted not to participate in any farmers’ markets or The Cleveland Flea summer shows. I had spent the past seven years going mostly non-stop from June until December, and I wanted to have a bit of time to enjoy this summer and spend time with Steve and the rest of our family.

Working at a reduced pace from June through August this year and having some really wonderful quality time with family put things into perspective and made me realize how much I had missed that in the years since I started my business. This revelation also helped me realize that renovating a building, opening a bakery, and operating a storefront would involve more of a commitment than I want to make right now.

I’m pretty sure I’m not going to return to the farmers’ markets, The Flea, or the holiday shows next year. However, I will continue to make pies in my licensed home bakery, will keep taking orders from my customers whom I so love, and will still do my wholesale work.

In addition, I am sorting out the details of collaboration with a local business of which I am very fond. It is something I am super, crazy excited about—and I’m hoping to have news on that front very soon.

Since the start of Humble Pie Baking Company, the appreciation you all have shown for my creations and the work that goes into them has been incredibly gratifying. I am deeply appreciative of the accolades and recognition my pies have garnered and deeply appreciative of the friendships we have developed.

I’m looking forward to the new adventures ahead and sharing them with all of you.

Hey there, good friends.

The The Cleveland Flea is this weekend. If you haven't yet ordered your pie or cranberry chutney for pick-up at the flea, you can still do so. I will have par-baked apple pies that you can pop in the fridge or freezer until Thanksgiving and then freshen up in the oven for a just bakes pie for your holiday table. Also available will be: Pumpkin, Pumpkin Pecan, Pecan, Chocolate Pecan and Mixed Fruit and Berry.

See you at The Flea!

Happy glorious November!

It's time to get your pie and chutney orders in for Thanksgiving if you haven't yet done so.

Lots of options for Thanksgiving pies-

1.You can call me or send a Facebook message to order for pick up or delivery. I still have some slots available for delivery on Wednesday the 25h. I start on the westside in the morning head east in the afternoon and south is late afternoon or early evening. You may also pick up your pies at my home in Avon Lake on Tuesday the 24th.

2.Another option this year that I am most excited about is ordering through Rising Star Coffee Roasters Hingetown or Rising Star Coffee Roasters Little Italy. You can place your order at either location for pick up anytime on Wednesday the 25th. They have put together a fabulous package with a pound of coffee, a pie and a jar of chutney. Stop in to place your order.

3. You can call me or send a Facebook message for pick up at The Cleveland Flea which is being held the 21st and 22nd of this month at Tyler Village, 3615 Superior- same location as the summer flea but indoors.

4. Last but not least... if you are a Fresh Fork member you can order pies a la carte for pick up at any of their holiday stops. The apple pies in the packages this year will not be Humble Pie Baking Company pies but the a la carte pies will be just as they always have been.

The offerings for Thanksgiving 2015:

Crumb Top Apple (available fully baked or par-baked for you to finish Thanksgiving day)

Pumpkin

Pumpkin Pecan

Pecan

El Rey Chocolate and Pecan

Mixed Berry and Fruit with a Light Crumb Topping

All pies are my usual 9" Deep and are $25.00 each.

One last thing, I won't be at any of the holiday shows this December. After many years of participating in and loving the amazing holiday shows we have every weekend all over town, I decided to take a break this year to have time with my family for the holiday season. You can still place orders for jam, jam gift packs and Christmas pies and quiches. I will be making jam and pie deliveries throughout the month of December. Christmas pies and quiches will be delivered 23 December.

I know this is a lonnnnng post with a lot to digest. Feel free to message or call me with any questions. Please feel free to share the post if you don't mind and see you soon!

P.S. I forgot to mention, there will be plenty of Sweet Potato Granola, 1.5 lb. bags/$14.00.

Meet Little Buddy.

Little Buddy is at least twelve years old. I paid maybe 30 bucks for Little Buddy. Little Buddy has pureed well over a thousand pounds of pumpkin over the years, has mixed countless batches of egg and cream for pecan and cream pies and has pureed thousands of pounds of fruit for jam. Every year as I prep for Thanksgiving I think about buying a larger, commercial hand blender with a more powerful motor but I can never bring myself to purchase a new one when Little Buddy is still going strong.

I first met Diane Sikorski at the end of our second Summer. She’d been baking pies at home and was thinking of starting a business selling them. One day, after sampling a few at our office, she asked if we’d be interested in carrying Humble Pie’s products. “Sure,” I said. “How about 400 pies for the…

Happy Monday, my friends.

It's hard to believe but it's time to start thinking about Thanksgiving.

As always, you may order your pies and Cranberry Chutney directly from me to pick-up or possibly to have me deliver. You can order for pick-up from the November Cleveland Flea (Saturday and Sunday, 21 and 22 November). You can order pies and Thanksgiving packages through Fresh Fork. A Fresh Fork Thanksgiving package is a great way to get most of what you need for the holiday meal all in one place. I'm working out the details of an east and west side pick-up point for holiday pies so, stay tuned for that.

It's not as easy as you would think for businesses to keep in touch with their customers via their pages. Often times our posts don't display in the news feeds of our fans unless they have clicked on the "Get Notifications" toggle under the "Liked" toggle. Won't you take a moment to make sure you've selected "Get Notifications" for the Humble Pie Baking Company page?

Finally, here's a link to the Cleveland Magazine "Best of Cleveland" article. I am so, so honored.
