East Bay Writer's Studio

East Bay Writer's Studio Begin and Complete Your Writing Project! Workshops take place in a comfortable coffee shop in Oakland with easy transportation and parking.

East Bay Writer’s Studio, founded by Kristin McCloy, offers both beginning and advanced writers the opportunity to deepen their knowledge about the art and craft of fiction including poetry, plays, short stories, and full length novels. Kristen offers personal attention by providing feedback through in-class exercises and optional homework assignments, often bringing examples of published writers

to teach students to “read as writers.”
East Bay Writer’s Studio offers a unique approach to teaching writing by encouraging students "to try on voices" and attempt a variety of different narrative techniques as a way of discovering their own material and personal voices. Kristin McCloy is the author of three widely praised novels including Velocity (Random House), Some Girls (Penguin) and the recently released Hollywood Savage (Simon & Schuster). Translated into 13 languages, Velocity garnered rave reviews in numerous publications including the New York Times, Washington Post, and San Francisco Chronicle. Some Girls was chosen New York Times’ notable book, and selected as one of the Chicago Tribune’s best works of fiction the year it was released.
