Hey people! I haven’t really been doing very much with my pie company because I’ve gotten so far behind on my art. But I’m hoping to strike a better balance in 2026 and have a bit of a routine with both.
In 2025, I attempted what I call Phase One for Owen’s Place Cheesecakes. Phase One was basically just to see the viability and test the market, because these pies aren’t cheap and the economy sucks. Phase One was a complete success, and it was nice to have that milestone out of the way.
Phase Two was more about sustainability, growth, marketing, and just a more all-encompassing miniature business model. I learned that I can easily get into restaurants. I can have repeat orders. I do have repeat customers. Cost of customer acquisition isn’t very bad at all, and everybody freaking loves Owen!
Phase One went well but wasn’t really realistic for day-to-day operations. Phase Two could be, and Phase Two is where I will reengage, but it’s really Phase Three that will be the point of legitimacy. That is going to require a lot more of my time and a lot more operating capital than Phase Two.
So I’ve pumped the brakes because I’m trying to weigh enjoying retirement versus getting deeply involved in something else. Phase Three would pretty much just consist of locking in being completely legit from every aspect and growing the company at an exponential rate.
Phase Four would be either automation or hiring distributors. After a couple of years of that, if it went as well as everything else has, then I would sell it. That is my endgame: building something to sell it, but also making something that is a Norman staple.
Like I said, I want Owen’s Place Cheesecakes to be like the Eskimo Joe’s of Norman. And I want people to get a chance to meet Owen while he’s still around, so they can tell their kids someday that they met Owen.
