For our bride that came to NYC from Australia to get married. She loved our Sugar Drape cake design but asked if we could make some butterflies to adorn the cake to honor her mother who sadly passed away recently. Her mother's favorite color was purple. We always know they are close when those small reminders appear.
Ever wonder where to start with a cake design? How about a dress! I was given this challenge by the fabulous team at Brides Magazine to come up with a cake design based on a dress that they selected. You can find this in the April/May 2015 Issue
What did you all do with your weekend? Me? Well, I created this little gem of a cake that was delivered to 620 5th Ave Garden Loft And Rooftop with the fabulous team at Union Square Events. What to name this one . . . thoughts?
Happy Friday! Loving the color palatte of Lavender & Gold that Brides Magazine put together for their June/July 2015 Issue. Check out the lovely little feather cake that we have featured on Page 170. Love the romantic feel of this entire feature!
With the weather in NYC lately, summer seems to have left us for a bit! I think we need some beach inspiration…..
Oh happy day!!! I have been patiently waiting for so long to share these two fabulous cakes! We made these golden gems for the lovely and talented Daughter of Design who styled the shoot for The Knot Spring 2015 The Fashion Issue (on stands Jan 19th) Check out pages 282-286. The Scoop... the cakes were designed based on those fabulous Hollywood Regency wall hangings in the background based on the 4 season. Bravo to everyone that worked on this shoot!

So much to get caught up on! First, I did a fun interview with BRIDES on "must-know cake tips" for couples. It's not everyday you have to pick out a wedding cake so any advice I can give, I'm happy to share!
Picking out the perfect wedding cake is no small task.
We're still in the midst of a busy fall wedding season but somewhere along the way I've been working to update the AWC website gallery and press page. There are LOTS of new cakes added to the mix and fun new press pieces and some old gems....I sometimes forget that I was in a music video and then it makes me laugh a bit.
Another fun press feature from The Knot! Check out the Fall/Winter 2014 issue for New York region on page 227 to see a lovely version of our Honeycomb cake with gorgeous sugar flowers.
I had to come up with a new name for this cake design, Tangerine Dream doesn't quite cut it for these insanely rich and beautiful tones that Matthew and Ian chose for their wedding cake at The Loeb Boathouse at Central Park last Saturday. Eggplant and Charcoal Dream does't sound as nice….. So how about the Mian Cake?
I'm pretty sure I need a course on social media for an introvert or find a way to pul myself out of the kitchen more often. Regardless, it's time to update on all the fun happenings around the kitchen....check out the Oct/Nov 2014 issue of BRIDES Magazine, page 240 for the cutest mini cakes with fresh blackberries, YUM!
Happy Summer my dears! It's been a busy Spring/Summer wedding season in the kitchen and I've been trying to find spare moments to download and edit photos of the cakes we've been creating. In the meantime, we just had our Tangerine Dream cake featured on Refinery 29. I LOVE this color combination!! http://www.refinery29.com/wedding-cakes#slide-7
This lovely cake was featured in NY Weddings Magazine Winter 2014, the theme was a study in texture. I love the texture of the white dots on the soft blue fondant and the texture and tones of the gilded sugar flowers
I was beyond excited to receive the news this week that I was selected on one of the top pastry pros by Martha Stewart Weddings, it is a real honor!
I was thrilled to receive an email today that a cake we did was going to be featured in the latest issue of Ceci New York Style Magazine, you can see the entire wedding at this link http://cecinewyork.com/cecistyle/v192 The color palate for this wedding was really spectacular, we were matching pantone colors of the invitation for the fondant of the wedding cake and matching fonts for the monogram. A quick update from A Simple Cake, we just put up a new post on the blog from a wedding that was featured in Style Me Pretty. The photographer was Kelly Kollar, the fresh flowers on the cake were done by Rachel Cho Flowers and the wedding was at The Gramercy Park Hotel http://asimplecake.blogspot.com/
Earlier last fall we were asked to submit a cake design for Coastal Living Magazine's Wedding issue. We recently received the print issue and were thrilled to find our cake on page 9! The real weddings featured in the magazine are gorgeous, it almost makes me want to get married again . . . almost.
Here is another lovely cake from this past year that we did for a client of Angie Nevarez at Baton NYC. It has me longing for warmer weather and the dreamy shade of a blooming magnolia tree.
I have such a backlog of fun and beautiful cakes from last year. I thought this cheery and modern succulent cake would be the perfect post for a Friday. We did this cake for a fun and fabulous client of Joseph Todd Events, the wedding was at Studio 450, a super modern white loft space.
We did a really fun wedding over the weekend with Loulie Walker Events in which each guest received a boxed slice of the groom's cake as they left the wedding. Such a great treat and late night snack for your guests!
We received our latest issue of BRIDES magazine in the mail and were thrilled to find their details feature this month "What your cake says about you". We were asked to create two cakes for the photo shoot earlier this year and it was such fun to come up with a concept and narrative and create a cake from there.
Happy Fall and almost Happy Thanksgiving! We're thankful for a lot this year, wonderful clients, supportive and loving friends and family. Take some time to make, share and enjoy something delicious over the holiday and weekend and stay tuned, we've got some exciting posts coming up next week!
As part of our team is heading to Indianapolis today with an absolutely stunning cake for Rachael Hoover's wedding, we were excited to find her sister Sarah's wedding featured in this month's issue of Martha Stewart Weddings Magazine. If any of you are familiar with Indianapolis, matriarch Martha Hoover is culinary pioneer with her restaurant group Patachou, Inc.
September, September, September . . . to quote You've Got Mail "Don't you love New York in the fall? It makes me wanna buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils". This Olive Branch cake is perfect before we head into the changing leaves of fall . . .
In celebration of the end of summer . . . where has the summer gone?!? This cake was such fun to make for Diana and Jack and is perfectly summer all in buttercream. Have a great and safe Labor Day weekend!!
Check out the latest issue of Brides Magazine, Sept 2013. This issue is filled with lots of great ideas and images, including a very cute cake we did for a photo shoot on page 361!!
Gracious, where is the summer going?!? We're staying cool in the kitchen, which is no small feat in this weather! We've been working with some really amazing couples the past month and I will post some more photos in the next couple of weeks. First up, this really lovely cake we did for a couple that was married just after the 4th of July at the Historical Catskill Point . . . the hidden gem of this cake, there's a bit of bling in the center of the peony.
