Priory Scholars of NYC A Scion Society of the Baker Street Irregulars

Created in 1954, The Priory Scholars of NYC (PSNYC) was founded by Chris Steinbrunner and friends and is a Sherlock Holmes scion society. Rising from the slumber of a recent hiatus (2007-2011), PSNYC has been re-booted so as to take full advantage of 21st century technology while at the same time exploring it's rich and storied past. Our primary focus is the discussion of the canon, while using su

pplemental material (both classic papers as well as works-in-progress) to fine-tune/challenge/enhance one's experience of the 60 primary texts.

Dear Scholars,

We are saddened to share that our distinguished webmistress Rachel Klingberg passed away unexpectedly early this week. Rachel was always witty and engaging at our meetings, and she contributed behind the scenes to keep the Priory Scholars running smoothly. She will be missed by all of us.

Tamar Zeffren, Archivist
Rah Pandravada, Quiz Master
Christopher Zordan, Economics Master

"This rose is an extra. Its smell and its color are an embellishment of life, not a condition of it. It is only goodness which gives extras, and so I say again that we have much to hope from the flowers.” - Sherlock Holmes

"At his advice, upon the afternoon of the 4th we set off together with the intention of crossing the hills and spending the night at the hamlet of Rosenlaui. We had strict injunctions, however, on no account to pass the falls of Reichenbach, which are about half-way up the hill, without making a small detour to see them."

Upon finishing the story, Doyle wrote to his mother, β€œThe gentleman vanishes, never to return!” but of course, he did, as he explained to Watson: "About that chasm. I had no serious difficulty in getting out of it, for the very simple reason that I never was in it.”

While Star Wars fans mark the day with "May the 4th be with you," to Sherlockians, May 4th has always held a sad memory of Sherlock Holmes's tussle with Professor Moriarty at the Reichenbach Falls.
