Mission
Theatre Factory is intended to be a platform where the experiences of different and multidisciplinary entities, such as theaters, universities and educational foundations meets and exchange ideas to develop artistic, didactic and editorial projects. Its perhaps ambitious goal is to renovate and rebuild the concept of creativity in the fields of research and education. Theatre Factory repre
sents a humble action of resistance to the present day cultural attitudes that seems to prevent the development of an intellectual, independent and competent creative research in favor of a more conservative and safe cultural approaches, that generally considers any new, provocative and cultural contributions as suspicious. Theatre Factory puts in action its own ideas along with its experience and technical abilities, promoting workshops and laboratories, forging new cultural concepts, methods and modus operandi. Rejecting the culture of endless variations on a theme and claiming the motto thinking before speacking, Theatre Factory takes its lack of means as a condition of authentic, prolific and responsible wealth to benefit the growth and progress of its artistic route.
“Nowadays, the theatre must be
higher
lighter
easier
more cheerful”
(from the last interview by K.S. Stanislavskij)
Theatre Factory is a no profit theatre organization that was founded in Rome in 2007, by a group of actors and a director coming from different educational and professional experiences -graduates and teachers from the Accademia Nazionale d'Arte Drammatica and from the acting school of Teatro dell'Orologio. The group had previously worked together in 2005, producing the premiere of P.Ridley's play "The Pitchford Disney" at the theatre summer festival in Spoleto. Upon the successful production of the same play in 2007, Theatre Factory focused on evolving its creative research, expanding its borders to Berlin, home of the most active European theatre scene. The creative collaboration with local professionals and the academic and educational projects at the Universitat der Kunst marked the development of the organization which culminates with the management and the artistic direction of several productions at the Engelbrot Theatre (Miss Julie by A. Strindberg, Bisse by K. Adshead, frag-mente infernali by P.P.Pasolini, Die Spitzeder by M. In 2011, Theatre Factory expands its horizon even further and produces the US premiere of "Bites", by British playwright Kay Adshead, in Los Angeles. Theatre Factory 2013

In 2005, BITES debuted world-wide in London. In 2008 premieres followed in Rome and Berlin. BITES will be presented for the first time to the American audience in Los Angeles, at the Old Bank District Theatre on April 27, 2012. BITES, a play by British playwright Kay Adshead, is a surreal and poetic play, depicting the life of minorities and the human rights issues they raise. It takes place in a post-apocalyptic restaurant, where the actors play the roles of hostesses, chefs and waiters. They never leave the stage and their roles change from course to course, but there is a thin, connecting line linking all of the episodes and characters together. The restaurant itself is a haunted setting, a place in ruins, reminiscent of an already-devoured banquet, an almost lunar landscape consisting of decades of decomposing leftovers. The play is served up in the form of a seven-course meal, each course telling a story from Afghanistan to Texas, passing through Guantanamo. The integrity of the lyric poetry mixed with pungent sarcasm unifies the seven courses into one and only big feast.
